PLAYERS: Damon Harrison
TEAMS: New York Jets
Damon Harrison's new strict diet has him hungry for some success along the Jets' front line this season. Harrison's diet hasn't always been perfect, though. The defensive tackle is a monster at 6-foot-4 and 335 pounds, and he quickly gained a unique nickname after being signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason: Big Snacks. According to SportsNet New York's Jets blog, defensive line coach Karl Dunbar used to leave Rice Krispie Treats on Harrison's desk during team meetings throughout minicamp and training camp. Dunbar apparently wanted to encourage the big man to lose weight and thus become more mobile, and using the tasty treats was his way of motivating the rookie. "He would often leave one there for me, just leave it there and not say a word," Harrison told "I never had one that he put in front of me. Sometimes, I'd turn it on him and leave one on his desk." Harrison played defensive tackle at William Pen...

Jets owner Woody Johnson says team is no 'circus'

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson disputes the ''circus'' label many fans and media have used to describe his team, instead saying ''we're deadly serious here.'' Johnson echoes comments Thursday by coach Rex Ryan, who says the ''circus thing is kind of a little old for me.'' The Jets have been in the headlines all summer - and...

Santonio Holmes: Mark Sanchez was ‘rattled’ by the Tim Tebow trade

On the surface, the Tim Tebow trade did not appear to bother Mark Sanchez. Reporters fished for some sign of panic from the Jets starting quarterback all summer but were only treated to cliches like “whatever’s best for the team” and “we’re just trying to win games.” In fact, Sanchez even expressed confidence that Tebow was a backup for New York above all else. But according...

New York Jets: Rex Ryan Given The Dreaded Vote Of Confidence

Every year, teams give players and owners their support. They express how much confidence they have in the people they hired, despite the losses. These people that the owners have so much confidence in usually end up fired.Part of this is because confidence isn't questioned unless things are going poorly.Reporters often seek to draw out a "vote of confidence" from an...

Mark Sanchez denies that he was “rattled” by Tim Tebow trade

By Jeffrey Beall A couple of days ago, New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes came out and stated that quarterback Mark Sanchez was rattled when Tim Tebow was acquired in the offseason. Turn On The Jets 12 Pack, Week 1 – Jets vs. Bills

The 2012 NFL season is off to a beautiful start. Yes, the Giants beat the Jets last year and won the Super Bowl. Did that prevent you from enjoying David Wilson and Mathias Kiwanuka’s tears or the disappointed faces of the bandwagon Giants fans who just bought their jersey the day before in the bar on Wednesday? Of course not. Week 1 is here and with that comes 12 likely inaccurate...

Holmes: Sanchez was 'rattled' by Tebow trade

Santonio Holmes is making news again. This time the Jets' mercurial wideout shared his quarterback's first reaction when the Tebow trade winds swirled into New York.

For Jets, a win Sunday starts up front

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Football games are won and lost in the trenches.A cliche we've all heard before. Against a revamped Buffalo Bills defensive front, Sunday's game will be decided by the effectiveness of executing this overused football phrase and not by the arm of Mark Sanchez.Or the legs of Tim Tebow, for that matter.Despite being 5-1 in his career against the Bills...

Stephen Hill will start for the Jets alongside Santonio Holmes

Even though it’s been reported that rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill has been a disappointment so far and is still a very raw player, Jets head coach Rex Ryan has decided to start him along with Santonio Holmes for this week’s opener against the Bills. Rex confirms Stephen Hill will be the starting No. 2 WR #nyj — Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 6, 2012 I guess in the...

Buffalo at New York Jets Week 1 NFL Game Preview

Stevie Johnson has not been at practice nursing a groin injury that plagued him all of last season, which is not the best of news heading into against Darrelle Revis. “Revis Island” and the Jets defense is the only shot for this squad to stay close in the majority of their games this season. The drama between Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow in terms of who to start down the road if...
