Early Thursday morning, the Philadelphia Eagles made an announcement that no one saw coming.  The Eagles have announced that Joe Banner will no longer be the president of the organization. Banner has been with the Eagles since 1994, but has been the president of the team since 2001.  With Banner leaving, Jeffrey Lurie has announced that chief operating officer Don Smolenski will be the new president.  Don will take most of the responsibility, but the salary cap issues will be taken care of by general manager Howie Roseman.
"It has been my privilege to work with Jeffrey Lurie over all these years. Together we have built a talented front office team that is now ready to assume leadership of this extraordinary franchise. ... I could never thank Jeff enough for the opportunity and support he has afforded me."
Banner will remain in the Eagles organization as a strategic adviser. The former president will still have an office in the NovaCare Complex, probably just a smaller one.  Banner told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he is now looking "get involved with the world of buying and selling a sports team with the possibility of becoming part of a group that buys a team." The Philadelphia Eagles will hold a press conference today at 2:30 on the Comcast Network, Buzz on Broad will have complete covereage of the presser.
