During his playing days, Joey Porter was known as one of the NFL’s fiercest linebackers, going to the Pro Bowl four times and winning Super Bowl XL with the Steelers in 2006. The last he was heard from was with Arizona in the 2011 season, signing a one-day contract to retire as a Steeler back in July.
However, though it’s not uncommon for NFL players to get themselves in financial trouble after their playing days, Porter may have gotten started a little soon. According to The Bakersfield Californian, Porter was arrested on Friday in Bakersfield, Calif. on a felony warrant for writing a bad check.
Now, normally writing a bad check is not a felony offense, so it figured that there had to be quite a bit of money involved. As of Monday morning Porter was still in jail, but by the evening the story became a bit more clear.
According to The Associated Press, Porter owed $70,000 to the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, which he paid in full some time on Monday and was released that same day. The charge is pending dismissal and a court date has not been set.

“Hopefully we can continue to win. We’ve won four in a row and we can keep this going and put ourselves back in contention, but we should be a desperate team right now.”

But Ottawa’s CFL team doesn’t begin play until 2014. We agree this is brilliant, but what’s Tim Tebow to do in the meantime?
@bizballmaury Tebow in Ottawa is Tebow’s PERFECT fit, an expansion franchise in a good market, Tebow will be a hero

Eric Bledsoe isn’t Chris Paul‘s typical partner in Lob City, but this is still pretty epic.
