During a recent appearance on 102.3 The Ticket in Denver, Maurice Jones-Drew didn't reveal much in regard to his tumultuous contract situation, but did acknowledge his ultimate goal, which, in his opinion, is within reach.

Jones-Drew touched on Emmitt Smith's career rushing yards record, hinting that the iconic Cowboy benefited from the superb talent around him. Asked if he could eclipse the mark, MJD didn't say no.

“Yeah, I think it’s doable. I definitely think it’s doable," Jones-Drew said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "Once again, Emmitt Smith was in a different situation than a lot of us, though. I mean, he had a Hall of Fame receiver, Hall of Fame quarterback, Hall of Fame offensive line, Hall of Fame fullback. Whoever put that team together did a heck of a job, and it just showed. … Don’t get me wrong: he was the reason they won, but he had a lot of guys around him as well.”

The record stands at 18,355 yards, roughly 11,500 yards more than Jones-Drew's current career total (6,854). That would mean he'd need another nine 1,300-yard campaigns. While it may seem improbable (bordering on impossible), Jones-Drew, 27, apparently has plenty left in the tank to make it happen.

“As long as I feel good, I’m gonna play. That’s it. When I start to hurt and the hurting doesn’t stop in February, March, it starts going into July and August, then we’re gonna have problem. But right now I’m feeling great, and all I can do is keep playing and taking it a year at a time," said Jones-Drew.

It's going to be an uphill challenge -- to say the least -- but the NFL's reigning rushing champ is the definition of a workhorse, and rarely misses game action due to injury.

Of course, Jones-Drew needs to be on the field to begin chipping away at history, meaning his standoff with the Jaguars needs to be resolved sooner than later. Personally, I don't think it's a reasonable or achievable feat, but it will be interesting to see how close he ultimately comes, be it in Jacksonville or not.
