Dallas Cowboys And The NFL:
INDIANAPOLIS – One of the more eyebrow-raising takes offered by Jerry Jones in his lengthy, wide-ranging interview with me and four other reporters Friday came when he was asked about the future of free-agent wide receiver Laurent Robinson.
In a nutshell, Jones said Robinson was expendable because the Cowboys have unheralded Andre Holmes waiting in the wings.
“He’s valuable,” Jones said of Robinson. “We have, in addition, a very good young receiver (in Holmes) that we’re really proud of, so he’s a factor in what we do here with Robinson, not do diminish what Robinson did here for us this year or can do in the future. He has a real knack of keeping the play alive, and that works real well with (Tony) Romo.”
Robinson was outstanding last season, snagging 54 passes for 858 yards and a team-best 11 touchdowns, all career highs. An undrafted free agent, Holmes spent most of the season on the practice squad, getting called up in December when another team showed interest in him.
So wouldn...

2012 NFL draft: Possible selections for the Dallas Cowboys
The 2011 NFL season for the Dallas Cowboys was the first for new head coach Jason Garrett and Tony Romo’s first season back after a collar-bone injury sidelined him during the previous season. While the Cowboys improved on their 6-10 record from 2010 they failed to make the playoffs losing twice to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Giants. Running back, Demarco Murray was a bright...
Jones doesn’t regret locking up Scandrick, vows to ‘use him right’ next season
INDIANAPOLIS – Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he has no regrets over giving slot cornerback Orlando Scandrick a five-year, $27 million extension last summer.
Logging seven starts, Scandrick paid Jones back with an uneven year. But Jones said he’s still very high on the Boise State alum.
“He’s a real value to us (as a slot defender),” Jones said Friday. “Was he challenged...
Cowboys will let Ogletree hit the market
A year ago, the Cowboys were eyeballing receiver Kevin Ogletree as a potential slot receiver. And that’s precisely what may have happened, until Laurent Robinson arrived on a one-year, bargain-basement deal and developed into Tony Romo’s favorite target. (Other than, of course, a golf cup.) Now, the Cowboys are prepared to let Ogletree walk away. …
Jerry Jones, Cowboys WR Dez Bryant Haven't Talked About Nightclub Incident
Jerry Jones has had a number of conversations with Dez Bryant about everything from financial decisions and how the wide receiver acts off the field, but the altercation Bryant had at a Miami night club recently did not get on his radar according to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com. Jones said he has not talked to Bryant about the incident in part because hes been too busy, and...
Franchise Tag A Possibility For Cowboys LB Anthony Spencer
Anthony Spencers best leverage with the Cowboys may be the team doesnt have a good option to replace him. There isnt a candidate on the roster who could effectively step into Spencers outside linebacker role, and if Spencer is allowed to sign with another team the Cowboys would have to sign a free agent or draft a replacement. Spencer never has had more than six sacks in...
Jones says Cowboys can contend for Super Bowl in 2012
INDIANAPOLIS – Even if they stand pat, the Dallas Cowboys could field a championship-caliber team next season, owner Jerry Jones said Friday.
“We have a team that can compete for the Super Bowl,” he said.
Told that many observers would scoff at such a statement considering the 2011 Cowboys finished 8-8 after losing four of their last five games, including two contests against...
Tyron Smith is moving to left tackle
The Cowboys made an expected switch to their offensive line official on Thursday. Tyron Smith, who had a strong rookie year at right tackle, will be the team’s starting left tackle next season. Doug Free will move back to right tackle. The move has been expected since the Cowboys took Smith ninth overall in the…
Jason Garrett says the Cowboys have plenty of leaders
Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher recently bemoaned the absence of a team leader. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett disagreed with Hatcher’s opinion during Garrett’s media availability at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “I don’t want to comment too much on what Hatch said but we certainly have very good leadership on our team,” Garrett said. “I…
Jones out of touch with fans’ true feelings
By Tom Orsborn
INDIANAPOLIS – Several Dallas Cowboys fans I’ve chatted with since the end of last season admit they’ve thrown up their hands in despair when it comes to the team’s future.
And who can blame them?
The Cowboys haven’t been to the Super Bowl since they beat the Steelers in the one after the 1995 season. Since 1996, they’ve won only two playoff games. Dallas...

Jerry Jones Sees Cowboys Contending For Super Bowl Next Season
Even if they stand pat, the Dallas Cowboys could field a championship-caliber team next season, owner Jerry Jones said Friday per Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. We have a team that can compete for the Super Bowl, he said. I think our talent level will allow us to be a nine-win team and be the one that gets hot at the end and has a chance at the Super Bowl, Jones...
