Why doesn’t Jeff Garcia just go away? I love what the guy did for the Eagles in 2006, but that was then. Unfortunately, if you buy into the rumors, Garcia wants a third crack to be a Birds quarterback.

Why? Hmm… let’s see. With McNabb shipped to D.C., Kolb unproven and Vick still being mentioned in trade scenarios, Jeff hears opportunity knocking. On the plus side, he plays with passion and is a solid leader. On the minus side, he’s 40 years old and wants nothing more than to start.

All this “mentoring Kolb” talk is nonsense. Jeff Garcia, if given an inch, will take a mile. His cup of coffee in Philly last year notwithstanding, Garcia still believes he can be the man.

If he were to sign on as a number three, I have no issue. However, if wheeling ‘n’ dealing Howie Roseman unloads Vick at some point, and then pegs Garcia to be Kolb’s backup, I have a big problem.

Vick is much less likely to make waves if/when Kolb struggles. Garcia knows how to drop subtle hints to the media regarding his intentions to get under center. He may seem innocent, but he’s very crafty. Kolb has enough to handle without having to deal with a backup angling for his job.

I realize Vick wants to start too, but he’s still on probation, so to speak. I can’t envision him publicly campaigning to take over after Kolb throws three picks and the Eagles lose by twenty to the Giants.

Maybe Garcia has turned over a new leaf and truly has no designs on being the number one guy. I wouldn’t bet on it though. Play it safe Andy Reid. Just say no.

  • You bring up a GREAT point that I did not realize with having him as a backup, and that if Kolb has a bad game, his interviews with the media would be him hinting(encognito)that should be more involved in the offense. Now that if they bring him back, with him KNOWING that he's a number #3 and not to make any waves then maybe it would be a OK move. This was a GREAT POINT you brought up,and it made me think twice about this move.(GREAT POINT)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
