According to the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco 49ers are hoping that with enough rest and rehab, defensive end Justin Smith (partially torn triceps) will be able to rejoin them during the playoffs. He may need surgery in the offseason to remove the bone spur. But the 49ers believe he can rehabilitate his arm to the point where he is effective in the playoffs. A first-round bye would help that goal. The 49ers would achieve that with a win Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals coupled with a Minnesota Vikings win at home over the Green Bay Packers. “He told me he’s getting better each and every day,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “That’s really all I know. He said it’s getting better.” If Smith isn’t able to return for the playoffs, he’ll be missed tremendously by the 49ers’ defense.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI....
