Ndamukong Suh guarantees Lions playoff appearance in 2013

Unlike the vast majority of professional athletes, Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh maintains a personal Facebook page that he has opened to the public.  It isn’t your typical “Fan Page” that is run by the player’s public relations representative.  It’s actually run by Suh himself.  Granted, he doesn’t post too often and keeps his distance from the internet weirdos...

Ndamukong Suh settles Oregon car accident suit

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh settled a lawsuit filed by a woman who was in Suh’s car when he crashed in his hometown of Portland, Oregon in December 2011. Saadia Van Winkle, the plaintiff, was a passenger in Suh’s car.  Her suit sought $1 million from Suh claiming negligence, recklessness and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The suit also accused Suh of...

2012 Lions season review: The great disappointment

The Detroit Lions were possibly the greatest disappointment in the NFL in 2012 after going 4-12 to follow a 10-6 year that also saw a playoff berth. The national and local media alike hopped on the Lions’ star trio of Stafford, Johnson and Suh in 2011 a base that any team should be able to build around and find success. In fact I would argue this season is worse than the 2008 in...

Lions looking to replace Jahvid Best

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew admits that he made a mistake in relying on Jahvid Best being healthy for the 2012 season.  He’s now going to make sure he picks up a back to replace Best for next season. “We need that shifty back that can come in and be a change-of-pace guy and catch passes out of the backfield,” Mayhew said. “A guy that can run routes and get...

Lions Coach Jim Schwartz: We’re Not Married to Any Defensive Scheme

When Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz arrived to the team in 2009, he brought along the wide-9 technique that had helped him be successful with the Titans. A scheme predicated on pressure on opposing quarterbacks, it highlighted the strength of the Lions defense which was the defensive line. However, after a disappointing season that only resulted in 4 wins changes may need...

Addressing Lions' 22 unrestricted free agents

Only one team in the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals, has more unrestricted free agents this year than the Detroit Lions, based on data from Pro Football Focus. The Lions still have 22 UFAs from their roster after re-signing linebackerspecial-teams standout Ashlee Palmer and safety Don Carey. Fifteen of those players started at least one game in 2012, including five of the core regulars...

Lions DE Ronnell Lewis Might Play Bigger Role In 2013

The Lions drafted him with immediate intentions of bolstering their special teams, and he spent the final seven games inactive. But with their defensive end position in flux entering the off-season, general manager Martin Mayhew said rookie Ronnell Lewis might be a potential fix as a pass rusher. "I think he's going to be a factor going forward," Mayhew said in...

Detroit Lions: Four Questions

1. How hot should Jim Schwartz's seat be in Detroit? After a breakout 2011 campaign which saw the Lions snap an eleven-season postseason drought by going 11-5, the team took a step back in 2012 by going 4-12. The struggles had a lot to do with Matthew Stafford's slow start to the season and a defense that struggled to force turnovers. Ultimately, for as much credit as Schwartz...

Lions GM Martin Mayhew Looking For A Running Back With Some Juice'

The Lions had a grand total of four runs of 20-plus yards this season – three by running back Joique Bell and one by receiver Mike Thomas, Tim Twentyman of Detroitlions.com reports. That was tied with San Diego for the fewest in the league. For comparisons sake, the Vikings led the NFL with 33. A lot of that can be attributed to big-play threat Jahvid Best never being able...
