The Free Press reports that the Lions are pushing DeAndre Levy to OLB.

Gunther Cunningham may be prone to hyperbole, but the Lions defensive coordinator wasn’t exaggerating Wednesday when he explained in one word what this year’s linebacking corps can do that last year’s couldn’t: Everything. “I’m really happy with the linebacker situation and for us to be fortunate enough to get (Stephen Tulloch and Justin Durant in free agency) is really, really something,” Cunningham said. “And Stephen Tulloch, I don’t know why they let him out of Tennessee, but I’m sure glad he’s here.”

By signing Tulloch and Durant and moving incumbent middle linebacker DeAndre Levy outside, the Lions have turned one of their biggest weaknesses last year into a strength. Tulloch, the NFL’s second-leading tackler a season ago, has drawn praise for his play this exhibition season from coaches and players alike. Durant is without question one of the best athletes on the team. And Levy seems a more natural fit on the outside, though he’s still primarily responsible for calling signals because of his knowledge of the defense (with Tulloch slowly working into the role).
