Jim Schwartz and his Detroit Lions staff will be coaching the South team in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 26 in Mobile, Ala. It is the second time in three years that Schwartz and company will coach in the all-star game for college seniors. In 2010, they led the North to a 31-13 victory. Schwartz said earlier this week that his staff would "embrace the opportunity" to work the Senior Bowl again. "I think there is some insight involved in getting to know those guys over a course of the week," he said. "It can confirm some of our scouts' evaluations. It can also maybe give us a different perspective on some other guys. Maybe we get a little bit more time with some other guys. "One of the guys that came out of that a few years ago for us was (running back) Joique Bell. We had him for a whole week down there. Our experience with him that week helped get him here (after Bell had stints with four other teams in 2010 and 2011). He knew our coaching staff and we knew a little bit about him, not just what we saw on film. "I think we're only seeing the beginning of Joique Bell." Dennis Allen and his Oakland Raiders staff will coach the North team. The Senior Bowl practices and game will be televised by the NFL Network.
