Kevin Kolb did not make a bold statement in the battle for starting quarterback and the Buffalo Bills’ defense looked good in Friday night’s exhibition against the Minnesota Vikings.
Kolb managed to engineer just four first downs in five series against the Vikings’ defensive starters. On the last two drives of the first half against Minnesota’s second-stringers Kolb drove the Bills 59 and 52 yards to two field goals.
The Bills took a 13-3 lead into intermission.
EJ Manuel took over for Kolb to start the second half and promptly marched the Bills 80 yards in 14 plays to a touchdown. It put Buffalo ahead 20-3.
The Bills went on to win 20-16 before a Kids Day crowd of 60164 at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Buffalo’s defense had three first-half sacks and produced the first touchdown of the game thanks to a Vikings miscue. Minnesota’s backup center Joe Berger snapped the ball over the head of backup quarterback Matt Cassel on a third-and-7 play from Minnesota’s 23-yard line.

Kevin Kolb will likely be the Bills Week 1 starter as EJ Manuel reportedly needs knee surgery. See how long Manuel will miss.
Even though the Bills gave Kevin Kolb the start, it was E.J. Manuel who continued to flourish on Friday night.
Kolb had a dreadful night after missing his receivers numerous times. It’s obvious that he’s not going to win the starting job.
Manuel on the other hand finished the night 10-12 for 92 yards and 1 touchdown.
It was truly impressive how much Manuel was in control of...
Buffalo quarterback EJ Manuel had what Bills coach Doug Marrone would only call ''a procedure'' on his left knee Sunday morning and will miss the rest of the preseason.
Marrone, who declined to characterize the medical attention the quarterback received as anything other than a ''procedure,'' says it was ''very, very minor'' and that...
Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel was in a heated
competition to be the team’s starter Week 1 with veteran signal caller Kevin Kolb. Entering the weekend, it was up in the air who would be under center to

will undergo “minor” knee surgery, which will sideline him for the remainder of
EJ Manuel has had the look of a guy that is ready to start the season for the Bills and utilize his skill set to make the Bills offense more dynamic. Unfortunately, he will need a minor surgery (perhaps a scope) that will keep him out the rest of he preseason. So we will see more Kevin Kolb. Yippee.

While E.J Manuel hasnt officially been named the starting QB, the title seems to be somewhat of a formality. E.J Manuel finished the night 10-12 for 92 yds and the TD in just 3 series.

The Buffalo Bills have announced that rookie quarterback EJ Manuel will need to have “a minor knee procedure” and will miss the rest of the preseason.
“EJ Manuel had some swelling in his left knee this morning and was examined by our medical staff” coach Doug Marrone said in a statement released by the team late Saturday afternoon. “An MRI revealed that he will need to...
The Buffalo Bills entered training camp with E.J. Manuel and Kevin Kolb competing for the starting quarterback job. Kolb, who was signed by the team in the offseason, seemed like the leader to start Week 1 because of his experience. But through two preseason games, it’s looking more and more like Manuel will open the […]
With three weeks left until the regular season, here are my three questions based on what we’ve seen from the Bills so far:
1) Is Kevin Kolb simply rusty or should we assume the worst?
Kolb completed 13 of 21 pass attempts against the Vikings on Friday night for 111 yards. If you just saw those numbers (which, due to the blackout, many of you did), you’d think Kolb was good...
