First reported by Danny O'Neil on the Seattle Times Seattle Seahawks blog. Cornerback / Defensive back Marcus Trufant is being released by the Seahawks Wednesday.

Trufant, 31, or "TRU" as he's called by fans and teammates was chosen by Seattle in the first round of the 2003 draft out of Washington State.

He is the longest-tenured member of the team having played nine seasons for Seattle.

Danny says the media learned Trufant met with team officials Wednesday before the transaction would be announced.

Indications are that Trufant is fine to resume playing, and he plans to continue his career.

Trufant was scheduled to make more than $7 million, according to the database at the NFL Players Association.

With the emergence of ex-CFL DB Brandon Browner, Richard Sherman, Roy Lewis, and Walter Thurmond its clear there was always going to be an exit strategy for Trufant for 2012.

Trufant attended Wilson High School in Tacoma and went on to Washington State.

Trufant played for the Seahawks in Super Bowl XL in Detroit, starting that game opposite Kelly Herndon. He was the second best DB the year he was drafted after Terrence Newman from Kansas State who went to the Cowboys.

Thanks for the memories Marcus. You will be missed, and you were a great Seahawks soldier. Good luck in 2012.
