UPDATE: There are multiple reports (scout, espnu, twitter) that Henry has committed to Michigan. However, it appears that he may not have made it official yet. I’ll update this when I have more information.

When it comes down to the final days before signing day there are usually some surprises. Michigan pulled a surprise move by picking up a commitment from 3-star DT Willie Henry (Glenville, Ohio). He visited Michigan this past weekend, got his offer and made a commitment to play for Brady Hoke and the Michigan Wolverines.

Henry checks in at 6-foot-3, 265 pounds and has a lot of upside. He also continues the trend in Michigan’s 2012 class of beefing up the lines. His scouting report (see excerpt from ESPNU below) indicates a player who with some coaching could become a force. With Brady Hoke (former DL coach), Greg Mattison (current Defensive Coordinator and former DL coach), and Jerry Montgomery (current DL coach), Henry will get some of the best coaching available to a college football D-lineman.

Though Henry needs to keep developing his frame and add some more good mass he does possess good natural size and looks to carry more bulk than is listed…When he can gain leverage he is a tough guy to move, but he seems to make things hard on himself at times…When he is active with his hands he can battle and be tough to handle, but with a tendency to pop up and lead with the shoulder and lose his hands he can let blockers into him and can be pushed back.

Henry becomes the 6th defensive lineman to join Michigan’s 2012 class. U-M’s complete list of commits is below.

In other news; Sam Grant chose Oklahoma over Michigan, Armani Reeves chose Ohio State over Michigan, and Alex Kozan chose Iowa over Michigan (and Auburn).
