New 1st round NFL Mock Draft.

FastEddie's Blog:
The NFL Draft is only a couple weeks away. For me its better then Thanksgiving ( well maybe not this year cause the Jets play) and Christmas combined. It's a two day affair where I lie down and do nothing besides wait to see who gets picked next. For some people it's a drug the NFL draft. For others they could really care less. If you could care less then need not read any further. If you are as crazy about the draft as I am then this is the mock draft for you.
Keep in mind that projections do indeed change a lot leading up to and even on draft day. Especially now with the way free agency is and with the cap space increase this year. For now this is purely for those who 3 or 4 weeks before would like to see what there team's future players will be.
.Raiders- Calvin Johnson-WR. This guy is the best player in the draft by far. He's big, he's fast, he has hands, and most of all he is a team guy. The Raiders are probably going to take Jemarcus Russell. Who in my opinion is very over hyped. I keep hearing he had a great pro day. Well just so you know so did Akili Smith, Heath Shuler, and Kyle Boller. Come to think of it I have never heard of anyone really having a bad pro day. It's tailored for the player unlike the combine which puts a ton more pressure on you as a player. With that said you can see how I feel about Russell. Don't get me wrong he is capable of being a great player. He has all the tools to be one? yada, yada, yada. But Calvin Johnson is a once in every 15 year type talent at his position.
.Lions- Brady Quinn-QB. The most NFL ready QB in the draft. Can step in right now and play. I think gets criticized way too much for his so called lack of performance. Lets face it Notre Dame doesn't win 1 game without Quinn. The O line was atrocious there and defensively I could get 11 guys in my office right now that have more speed then they provided. Quinn didn't disappoint the rest of the team disappointed.
.Browns- Jemarcus Russell-QB. Browns are tough because they are in a spot that is take the best player available that slips. It's up to them who they rank on there boards. I think its Russell. Charlie Frye stinks and I hear Russell has some previous ties with the Browns.
.Bucs- Joe Thomas-OT. This is where I think the phone calls will start to come in. The Lions want out of there pick but will require a ton to trade with anyone. The Bucs are in perfect shape to shop this Adrian Peterson or Joe Thomas selection. If they however do pick, Joe Thomas is the guy. He is this years version of D'Brickashaw Ferguson only he actually looks like a LT. Not a Power Forward for the Boston Celtics.
.Cardinals- Adrian Peterson-RB. I know I know they have Edgerrin James. And I honestly don't see them picking a RB. I see them shopping this pick too especially if Adrian Peterson is still on the board. Peterson in my opinion is the 2nd best player in this draft. The Cardinals have a new HC in Whisenhunt and he has no ties to Edge. This will definitely stir up the Cardinals war room with who to take. If Peterson is there it's about value but the need pick I believe is DL (think Gaines Adams).
.Redskins-TRADE- There is no way the Redskins are selecting at #6. For multiple reasons. One and most importantly they don't pick again until the 5th round. Let me repeat that for you The Redskins don't pick again until the 5th round. Secondly the Skins think Lance Briggs is the greatest LB since LT. Briggs is good but are they any better with him on the team or the guy they would have selected here. Briggs better be able to block, run, catch, snap, and hold for this trade to make sense. In lieu, The Redskins are clueless.
.Vikings- Leon Hall-CB. It very well could be LaRon Landry who is moving up the rankings as of late. But I think Hall makes the most sense here. He is the best CB in the draft and I think CB's are tough to come across. Therefore that's why I take Hall over Landry here.
.Falcons- LaRon Landry-S. The Falcons get the award so far for best off season move. They traded backup Matt Schaub who has played in only 2 games in his career to the Texans for this pick and two 2nd rounder's (1 this year and 1 next). Rumor has it they covet Calvin Johnson even more then I do. So those picks could be packaged to move up and select him. If they stay Landry is the guy. There Secondary is old and Landry will be an immediate impact.
.Dolphins- Alan Branch-DT. He is being considered this year's version of LenDale White. Ton of athleticism but takes plays off and is a lazy fat mess. However he is 323 pounds and really athletic. He is way to talented not to be considered by every team from this point on.
.Texans-Levi Brown-OT. Screw the Texans. They traded for Matt Schaub and then paid him crazy money and the following day released David Carr who spent more time getting off the ground then reading defenses. And what do they do that's right? They draft the one thing they haven't had in there existence as a franchise. A Left Tackle. Sure get Schaub some protection and throw Carr to the curb. A smart pick for the Texans. Just in case you have lived in a hole the last year and a half, I just want to mention that this team passed on Reggie Bush. Ok next!
.49ers-Patrick Willis-LB. This guy is a talent. He absolutely dominated the Senior Bowl and then ran a 4.39 40 at the combine. He will be the perfect fit for Nolan's 3-4 defense. They could go DL or WR but I think Willis is a specimen.
.Bills- Amobi Okoye-DT. Yes they need a RB but Marshawn Lynch is a major reach here. Okoye however isn't a reach. He is 298lbs and explosive. Not to mention he was a 4 year starter at Louisville and he is only 19. Too much upside on this kid for the Bills to pass on
.Rams- Jamaal Anderson-DE. He has fallen as of late but he can play. Dominated at Arkansas but now that I think about it he went to Arkansas. Nonetheless he is a great player and good pick for the Rams who are awful up front
.Panthers-Greg Olsen-TE. In my opinion a little bit of a reach. He ran well at the combine (4.51 40) and scouts have since raved about him. They also went on to say he has quality hands which after watching Miami games I must have missed. In my opinion his hands are as overrated as Jeremy Shockey's but Shockey is 100 times the blocker that Olsen will ever be.
.Steelers- Jarvis Moss-OLB. This is almost a bet the farm pick. Moss makes too much sense. He is a DE that can play standing up too. He is fast around the edge and will probably play OLB for new coach Tomlin. Big question here is does Tomlin stay with 3-4. Moss is a typical Steelers LB.
.Packers-Marshawn Lynch-RB. Packers need a RB badly and Lynch just happens to play RB. It's a match made in heaven.
.Jaguars ? Reggie Nelson-S. The Jags have a couple needs and I think they seriously consider a WR like Ginn Jr. here but opt to take a Safety because they have chosen a WR in it seems like every draft since Brunell was there.Nelson is a premiere Safety that could line up and play Corner if need be. Jags are old in the Safety spot and Nelson happens to be a rookie.
.Bengals-Chris Houston-CB. Flat out burner. Houston is one of those guys who improved his stock with his workout at the combine. He ran a 4.32 40 and showed his strength benching 225lbs 22 times. CB's are tough these days to get a read on because of all the new rules in place to benefit WR's.
.Titans- Ted Ginn, Jr-WR. He hasn't run yet so we are waiting to see his 4.3 speed. Supposedly he is the burner of the draft. If he is as fast as advertised he moves to top 10 status. However, the Titans need a WR desperately and lost all there starting WR to free agency. It could be Dwayne Jarrett here but if Ginn runs a 4.3 and makes it this far in the draft, he is the Titans pick.
.Giants-Aaron Ross-CB. Giants fans are not happy about not going out and spending carelessly in Free agency. Personally I think the Giants were smart in that aspect. They proved last year that overpaying for free agents is not the way to go (Sam Madison & Lavar Arrington). Ross is a tough corner with good speed. He will make a good Giant for years to come.
.Broncos- Dwayne Bowe-WR. Everyone believes the Bronco's are going DL here. To be honest Carriker is probably the likely selection but Rod Smith is 72 years old and Javon Walker needs a complementary possession guy. Bowe is a talent. My favorite WR in the draft this year not named Calvin Johnson.
.Cowboys- Robert Meachem-WR. The Boys have gone to the defensive side of the ball in the last couple drafts. Plus TO and Terry Glenn are in there 30's. Meachem can fly and make the acrobatic catch. I think the Boys need someone to replace Owens and Glenn within the next couple years and they start with Meachem.
.Chiefs- Joe Staley-OT. The Chiefs have a lot of needs. WR is one but they are old and thin at the OL position. Can't win games if you can't block. The next best OT available is Staley. Good pick here for the Chiefs.
.Patriots-Paul Posluzny-LB. I hate the fact the Pats are picking ahead of my Jets. I feel they will select a guy just so we can't have him. Posluzny is a perfect fit in the Pats scheme. I honestly can't see Posluzney wearing any other jersey besides a Pats, Giants, or Jets.
.JETS- Adam Carriker-DL. I think in a perfect world this happens and since its my mock draft well it just so happens it is perfect. Carriker is exactly what the Jets want and need to sure up the DL spot. He is big at 6 foot 5 296 and can run. He is a younger version of Richard Seymour. This would not only make me the happiest guy around but it will make our DL a serious force.
.Eagles-Micheal Griffin-S The eagle are in dire need of secondary help. They choose Safety help over CB. Griffin is a hard nose player who had 250 career tackles at Texas.
.Saints-Darelle Revis-CB. The Saints are ready to make things happen. They are talking Super Bowl this season. The only thing keeping them from that is that they can't cover anybody. Revis is a great fit for the Saints and has a some ability in the return game too.
.Patriots- Lawrence Timmons-OLB. The Pats take 2 LB's in the 1st round. Solidifying any doubt that they will be one of the best all around teams in football again. Oh yeah how could I forget they have Tom Brady too.
.Ravens-Jon Beason-OLB. The Ravens need a Linemen but non are available at this juncture. Next need LB, best one available is Beason.
.Chargers-Dwayne Jarrett-WR. The Bolts don't need to much besides WR and Jarrett has 'steal' written all over him. Great team and a great fit for Jarrett to perform well. He will jump in right away and play. I like this pick.
.Bears ?Sidney Rice-WR. Bears are mediocre at best at the WR spot. Rice is a tall lean receiver who has hands of gold. Solid pick
.Colts-Justin Harrell-DT. Say what you want the Colts still can't stop the run. They need a DT in the worst way. Harrell is moving up boards and would provide the Champs with much needed help in the middle.
As the draft moves forward I will come out with new projections as well as Round 2 and possibly Round 3 Projections. Stay Tuned!
