The Andy Reid era couldn’t have started any better for the Chiefs. The Chiefs overpowered the undermanned Jacksonville Jaguars 28-2 on a hot Sunday afternoon at EverBank Stadium. Alex Smith the quarterback Reid and new general manager John Dorsey acquired from San Francisco threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter; Jamaal Charles ran for a score before leaving the game with a quadriceps injury; and outside linebacker Tamba Hali put the finishing touches on the game by returning a Blaine Gabbert pass 10 yards for a score in the fourth quarter. The 28 points were the most scored by the Chiefs in any game last season and equaled their most accomplished twice in 2011. Reid became the first coach to win his first game as Chiefs head coach since Frank Gansz in 1987 and this was Chiefs’ first road win on opening day since a wild 40-39 win at Cleveland in 2002. The Chiefs scored three unanswered touchdowns after surrendering a safety on a blocked punt out of the end zone and led 21-2 at the half. Smith threw for two first-quarter touchdowns and Charles added a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. And the defense came up with three sacks an interception by Brandon Flowers and held Jacksonville to two three first downs in the half.
