With Henry Hynoski out with a knee injury, the fullback position needs a seasoned veteran and a trustworthy blocker as the New York Giants enter the David Wilson/Andre Brown era. What better option than Vonta Leach? Leach was cut by the Baltimore Ravens last week and has garnered much interest from several teams. What makes the New York Giants different is they are a Super Bowl caliber team. Also, aside from Ahmad Bradshawn and Brandon Jacobs, the essential pieces of the 2012 Super Bowl champions are still alive and well. (Photo Credit: Patrick Smith/Getty Images North America) Essentially, the Giants have the best chance out of the teams courting Leach, with the exception of the Houston Texans, to make a valid Super Bowl run and Leach can play a very integral role if such a run occurs. Last season, Leach did an exceptional job being the lead blocker for Ray Rice, who ran for 1,143 yards and 9 touchdowns during the regular season. Rice was always a danger to the opposing defense and Leach gets a lot of credit for helping him get those yards. If Leach chooses the Giants, he will be blocking for the tandem of David Wilson and Andre Brown, two running backs who look to create a lot of buzz this season with the departure of Ahmad Bradshaw. Brown needs to remain healthy and Wilson has to be the player he was last season against the Green Bay Packers on a consistent basis. With the addition of Leach, it brings comfort to both running backs because he is a veteran and has a nice track record of blocking two great running backs in Arian Foster and Ray Rice. His experience blocking premier running backs can be beneficial and vital for the tandem if they want to put up the big numbers they are expected to produce. While the Giants are constricted with money, the Giants possess the appropriate set up for Leach. Young running backs with a lot of potential led by a seasoned and experience veteran while playing on a Super Bowl team is something the other suitors don’t have to offer. Also, given Leach’s age, this could be his final run in the NFL and what better way to go out than to do it with a team capable of winning? Since the running game is of big concern for the Giants, the viable choice at this time is Vonta Leach. It is disheartening that Hynoski is down with an injury because he is a workhorse and it was also nice to see the Hynocerous make its long awaited debut last season, but if the Giants want to beef up their run game, Leach is the man do it. The Giants are a long shot in acquiring him, but who knows? They have a pretty good track record of being long shots and coming out the victor, right New England? Super Bowl fullback on a Super Bowl contending team with a Super Bowl offense led by a Super Bowl quarterback sounds pretty neat to me. Does this mean a Super Bowl can be coming for the Giants? Let’s wait a little for that article. Related articles New York Giants: the tale of Terrell Thomas
