Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley says that he feels he played well enough last season to earn his $5.5-million, fifth-year contract option for 2015, but the team refused to exercise it this spring. "I felt like I would (earn it), yeah," Fairley said today, after taking part in an organized team activity practice in Allen Park. "I felt like things went great for me. "My first year wasn't too good, but my next two came on. But like I said, they didn't pick it up, so we've just got to move on and get ready for this year. Things are going to be good." Fairley was the 13th overall draft pick out of Auburn in 2011. A broken foot limited his effectiveness over 10 games his rookie season. He had 5 1/2 sacks in 13 games in 2012 and six sacks in 15 games last year. But he has not been the consistently dominant player the Lions had hoped he would be while playing next to Ndamukong Suh. Fairley admitted that he initially was bothered by news o...

Detroit Lions Offense Is Overrated/ Secondary is Underrated

So much of our lives operate on the concept that perception is reality. If enough people understand something a certain way, it must be true. Time for a reality check. Highlight reels rarely give the whole picture. And most football experts that get paraded before you are familiar with generalities. But as far as specifics, most of them have no idea what they're talking about...

Both are fun exercises, things that keep fans engaged and the beer flowing at the local tavern. But they miss out on what is most important...

Detroit Lions Coaching Staff: Zero Margin For Error

Typically, when a team brings in new coaching and a new system, not much is expected for the first year. So with the Lions in precisely that situation, you might be tempted to think they've got a little leeway. Don't! When you bring a new coach to a playoff team, tanking your first season is not acceptable. More is expected. And more has to be expected here. Why? Because...

Fantasy Football: Many Will Regret Overlooking Golden Tate in 2014

Did you ever wonder how your mother is such a great shopper?  I did, until I saw her big box of coupons and sale ads showing many items on sale. This is how I feel about fantasy football as well.  Some players are just "on sale" where they are being valued so low, how could they not give you more value than what you spend on them? One guy this year that comes to mind...

Detroit Lions were right to pass on Kaepernick, but these 10 teams weren’t

Yesterday, Colin Kaepernick agreed to a six-year, $126-million contract extension that included an NFL record $61 million guaranteed. Now, there are plenty of clauses in the deal that make it difficult for the San Francisco 49ers quarterback to earn the entire amount.
