While no official announcement has been made, New England Patriots left tackle Matt Light plans to retire this off-season, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports. Light skirted questions about his playing future during a Commissions for Charity event on Tuesday. "No, I’m just rocking and rolling. I’ve been in Ohio, working on some stuff for the (Matt Light) Foundation. We have a youth turkey hunt coming up. Other than that it’s been pretty quiet," Light said according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald, who noted that Light was noticeably slimmer and appeared to not know that the team had begun their off-season workout program on Monday. Light started 15 games in 2011 and the 33-year-old has one season remaining on his two-year, $12 million contract from last August. If Light plays, he's scheduled to earn a $3.4 million base salary, $100,000 workout bonus and can earn up to $1.7 million in incentives. If Light hangs up his cleats, the Patriots will save $5 million in salary cap space and turn to Nate Solder or Sebastian Vollmer at left tackle.

Best. Sports. Headline. Ever. ‘Patriots Beat Cocks’ (pic)

There is not really much that needs to be added to that brilliant headline to interject humor, other than I’m just relieved the story wasn’t about a slumber party at Tom Brady’s house that went horribly, horribly awry as it entered dreadfully inappropriate territory. But seriously, is it possible that no one at The Patriot [...]

Patriots Draft Potential: Running Backs

By Chris Warner Our series on Patriots positions of need marches on with an inspection of available running backs. Though the team lost free agent Benjarvus Green-Ellis, second-year players Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen look primed to pick up much of that production. Patriots Draft Potential: Defensive Linemen

By Chris Warner Today we preview potential Pats picks for defensive linemen, one of the team’s biggest areas of need (emphasis on “biggest”). While New England boasts human doorstops Vince Wilfork and Kyle Love, the team has had a difficult time tracking down a long-term solution for a third upfront defender. Veterans like Gerard Warren have filled in well, but the Pats need...

BenJarvus Green-Ellis: new number and a new role?

Perhaps the most notable free agent signing that the Bengals made this year was in former New England Patriots running back, BenJarvus Green-Ellis. He has been a productive NFL back since going undrafted four years ago, but unfortunately has been stuck with the label of not being a "breakaway back" or being capable of generating big plays. One thing that can't be...
