The Rap Sheet:
Every year, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports puts together a much-anticipated list of the Top 50 free agents. It’s not based on overall talent right now, but it’s compiled judging “bang for the buck,” Prisco writes.
Texans LB Mario Williams is the No. 1 player, and that’s not a surprise. But what may be surprising is that with nearly 20 free agents, the Patriots just have one on the list — WR Wes Welker. The Patriots top free agent to lock down is 18th on this rundown.
Here is the explanation from Prisco: “He led the league in catches, but is he a No. 1 receiver in any other system? The other issue is age. He turns 31 in June.”
Ouch… but true? Perhaps. Welker’s value will no doubt be one of the most interesting things this offseason. I’d probably place him higher, but other teams may not. There is debate over plenty of these guy, some of whom may be Patriots.
See any you like? Anyone the Patriots should go after?

NFL Rumors: Could the Titans Be After Mario Williams?
It seems unlikely that the Houston Texans can retain Mario Williams. Williams has big money looking to be paid to him and their salary cap could be in a hole even if they franchise-tag the pass-rusher.
Many rumors have him going other places, such as the New York Jets. The Jets and Rex Ryan have been looking for an elite pass-rusher to fit their solid 3-4 scheme. They are just a...
Reflecting on the Superbowl a week later
After the game ended I avoided exposing myself to sports news for a few days. So it wasn’t until about Wednesday that I realized people were blaming Wes Welker for the loss. That’s crazy to me. As the play in question was happening, I though to myself that the throw was too high, and it never crossed my mind again. Welker is a tiny guy. I’ve met him a couple times...
Patriots to try and sign Mario Williams?
Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly believes Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots could try and sign Houston Texans defensive end/linebacker Mario Williams once he becomes a free agent on March 13th.
I honestly don’t see Belichick going after Williams, since he was still able to get a solid pass rush this season with Mark Anderson, Vince Wilfork and Andre Carter. And...

There’s no way around it. The Patriots have to bring back Wes Welker—franchise him or lock him up for a long term deal…Either way. Either way. Either way’s fine.
Jackson Settles Academic Concerns, Visits OSU
Not trying to overhype a late recruiting visit and possible signee, but remember in 2000 when then Texas Tech coach Mike Leach brought in an undersized slot receiver from Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City and gave him a scholarship. This was after so many of the Big 12 coaches said Wes Welker was too slow. Coaches have not said that about Orlando (Oak Ridge), Fla., slot receiver Rayshawn Jackson.
Part III: If Gisele could have Played and Belichick would have Coached
By now, Gisele, you should have cooled off some. By now you should have studied the films of the game. Thus, you should have come to realize that Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, and Deion Branch are all and all arguably pretty good receivers. Perhaps, you still feel that they should have caught every pass near them. No argument! The truth, however, is that nary a receiver in the...
