New Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp.
Greg Knapp‘s exit out of the AFC West didn’t last long.
Two weeks after he was fired as offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders, Knapp has been tapped to coach quarterbacks for the Denver Broncos, likely completing their coaching moves this offseason. The role of QB Coach was opened after Adam Gase was promoted from that position to offensive coordinator. The previous Broncos offensive coordinator, Mike McCoy, accepted the San Diego Chargers‘ head coaching position.
Clearly this division likes to keep its coaching trees all in the family.
“Greg is a proven, experienced coach with a very impressive background working with quarterbacks,” head coach John Fox said in a statement. “He’s had success with Pro Bowlers and established players while also being instrumental in the development of younger quarterbacks. I’ve coached against him for a number of years and have a lot of respect for him. We are pleased to add someone of his caliber to our coaching staff.”
Knapp, an 18-year NFL coaching vet, was fired as offensive coordinator in Oakland after one season because he never got the ground game going. The team finished 28th in rushing in 2012, and Darren McFadden went from being a five-yard-per-carry back to averaging 3.3 per carry in 2012.
But the Broncos didn’t hire him to coach running backs, they hired him to coach Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, and his success with quarterbacks is well-documented.
Carson Palmer, for instance, had a relatively successful 2012, leading the Raiders to the eighth-ranked passing attack and enjoying 22 touchdowns to just 14 interceptions. Quarterbacks under Knapp have reached the Pro Bowl nine times, and he’s coached the likes of Steve Young, Jeff Garcia, and Matt Schaub as starters in the league.
With years of NFL experience as OC and QB coach, he’ll be a valuable asset to Gase in his first year as offensive coordinator. And maybe he’ll even be a valuable asset to Peyton Manning as well.
BEST OF MAXIM
We're sure it will take some time for Peyton Manning to get over throwing that ill-fated pass across his body and the subsequent interception that killed his team's chances to advance to AFC Championship game.
But for now, he'll get it out of his mind for a few days by doing what he loves - hunting.
I love to watch the NFL. I follow all the headlines and analysis that have anything whatsoever to do with the game.Every day I check in with my favorite media personalities to see what the important football topics of the day are, and I'll probably continue to as long as there's an NFL to watch. It adds flavor to the experience of being a football fan. That doesn't mean...
Peyton Manning has an incredible work ethic both on and off the field.
He probably got it from his father former New Orleans Saints QB Archie, who is now helping him sell pizza.

Peyton Manning's new position coach is Greg Knapp, a veteran of nearly two decades in the NFL.
A day after promoting quarterbacks coach Adam Gase, 34, to offensive coordinator, Broncos coach John Fox added some experience to his staff in Knapp, an 18-year veteran of the NFL.
Knapp, 49, was the Raiders' offensive coordinator last season, a position he also held from 2007...
After the Baltimore Ravens shocked the number 1 seeded Broncos in the playoffs, one could only imagine just how bad members of the Broncos were feelings. Riding a wave of momentum, many felt the Broncos were a Super Bowl favorite.
Quarterback Peyton Manning had to be especially upset with how the season ended, in what could possibly have been a MVP regular season.
NEED A DISTRACTION
Peyton Manning's excellent season with the Denver Broncos came to an end, and got over the playoff loss in an interesting way.
With two Super Bowl rings, some people put Eli Manning in the same tier as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers. While, the two rings undoubtedly makes him “elite,” those other 3 guys are clearly in another tier and this season once again showed why. In 9 years as a starter, Eli Manning has missed the playoffs 4 times, including 3 of the last 4 seasons, and has only won...
Peyton Manning figured one good Papa deserved another.
Manning's father, Archie, is joining his son as a Papa John's pitchman, spearheading the pizza chain's coin-flip promotion at the Super Bowl in the family's hometown of New Orleans.
While he was sitting out last season with his neck injury, Peyton Manning starred in a Papa John's Super Bowl commercial with...
The Denver Broncos announced Friday that Greg Knapp was hired as the team's quarterbacks coach. Knapp was fired as the Oakland Raiders' offensive coordinator after the regular season. It was his second stint with the Raiders. Now, Knapp will get to work with quarterback Peyton Manning. The job opened up when Adam Gase was promoted to offensive coordinator after Mike...
Peyton Manning was back in the saddle, looking good in the preseason and donning some sharp new orange threads. Eli Manning was fresh off his second Super Bowl victory in five years, a successful Saturday Night Live hosting gig and throwing the ball better than ever in training camp up in Albany.
It was August, the Super Bowl was going to be played in their hometown of New Orleans...
The Denver Broncos promoted quarterbacks coach Adam Gase to replace Mike McCoy as offensive coordinator.
Gase joined the Broncos in 2009 as wide receivers coach. He spent the last two seasons coaching the quarterbacks.
McCoy left Denver to become head coach for the San Diego Chargers.
Coach John Fox said continuity was important for the Broncos, who were ranked fourth in the NFL...
Veteran fantasy football drafters know about risk and reward. They know that waiting on a quarterback is a risk, as you let premier talents like Tom Brady and Drew Brees slip off the board. They know that drafting Peyton Manning, two years, one team change and at least four neck surgeries removed from his last NFL action, represented a huge risk, albeit one with potentially great...

After the Denver Broncos promoted quarterbacks coach Adam Gase to offensive coordinator on Thursday morning, Gase told reports he wants Denver’s offense to put the “pedal to the metal” with quarterback Peyton Manning in 2013.
Obviously, that is something fans in Denver love to hear. Not only does it excite the fans, but also a player that...
I don’t know if you heard, but some things happened this week in sports. As I sit here writing on Wednesday night, I’m already pretty sure that this is the oddest week in sports in our lifetime. Any one of this week’s events would have made it a surprising week, but this is the week that just won’t quit. So, here is a recap of the week (plus Saturday. Thank you, stupid...
