Two days ago the Pittsburgh Steelers made a few roster moves when they released defensive tackle Omar Hunter, of Florida, and corner Nigel Malone, of Kansas State. Both players were signed by the Steelers following the 2013 NFL Draft as undrafted rookie free agents. However, after three days of shorts and helmets drills and one day of padded practice the Steelers chose to release both players and have signed two more undrafted rookies to take their spots. The first is corner Ryan Steed of Furman University. Steed was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent last year by the New York Jets, but he was cut during training camp. Steed then signed on with the New Orleans Saints this off-season, but he was cut a week ago and has now landed with the Steelers. Pittsburgh also signed former Minnesota tight-end and fullback John Rabe. With Heath Miller and David Johnson both on [...]

Injuries Finally Rearing Their Ugly Head at Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp

Through the first few days of training camp the Pittsburgh Steelers had remained fairly healthy, but when the pads went on injuries finally started to pop up. Injuries and NFL training camp go together like peanut butter and jelly, but the hope every year is that teams can stay relatively healthy and avoid major injuries. Before the Steelers had even seen any minor injuries players...

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin Says T Mike Adams Is Not Being Graded On A Curve

Pittsburgh Steelers second-year tackle Mike Adams seems to be having a good training camp thus far and that’s a good thing considering how he could have lost his life on the first day of June during an attempted carjacking. New Role, Health Could Produce A New Emmanuel Sanders In 2013

By Matthew Marczi Given the recent revelation that fourth-year Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is—surprise, surprise—pretty fast in his own right, following the departure of noted speedster Mike Wallace, Sanders had an awfully good reason to account for the wonder that some people experienced as they watched him beat corners down the field in [...] New Role...

Steelers Will Still Primarily Be A Power Running Team In 2013

If you are like me, you are probable excited about seeing more of the outside zone being utilized by the Pittsburgh Steelers offense in 2013. However, just because we will see more of it, doesn’t mean we won’t still see some of the traditional inside zone, and power based blocking that we have been accustomed [...] Steelers Will Still Primarily Be A Power Running Team In 2013...

Pittsburgh Steelers: A look at the defensive line

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel (photo credit: brettkeisel.com) I’m going to just come right out and say it, the defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers is the weakest part of the whole team. It is plagued with underachieving players along with lack of depth and is just completely overrated. The Steelers base defense includes having only three defensive lineman...

NFL Pro Bowl 2.0: Will It Work?

Growing up in Hawaii I was fortunate enough to have yearly tickets to the NFL  Pro Bowl. From 1991 (I was 5 years old) until 2012 (just before I moved to Arizona), I missed a total of three Pro Bowl games. Two of those were due to illness, while the other saw me on a business trip. Needless to say, the Pro Bowl has been the one way for Hawaii’s NFL fans to see their favorite players...

Two years ago the Pittsburgh Steelers opened the season against their arch-rivals the Baltimore Ravens. During that game the Ravens repeatedly used an outside zone blocking scheme and would cut block nose tackle Casey Hampton to take him out of the play. The Steelers lost that game 35-7 and there was a lot of talk about their old and slow defense. However, for the Steelers fans the...
