As a former longtime rock in the middle of the Packers' offensive line and Pro Bowl selection in 2011, Scott Wells has experienced the highs that go along with playing in the NFL.

However, Wells, now the Rams' center, also dealt with his share of lows, too. Primarily, off the field with his wife Julie.

Sports Illustrated's Jon Wertheim wrote a fantastic piece detailing the couple's struggles, including the loss of premature twin boys, born on Thanksgiving Day 2005.

Following that tragedy, and months of trying to expand their family, Scott and Julie traveled to an orphanage in Uganda this summer, eventually gaining legal custody of three children: 2-year-old R.J., Elijah, 3, and Caroline, 4.

But another hurdle remained. The children had no visas, preventing them from traveling to the United States.

This is when the fork-in-the-road moment came.

With Rams training camp set to get underway, Scott had to return home. Julie, faced with a tough choice, decided to stay in Uganda and wait out the process. Upon receiving the visas almost ten weeks later, Julie and her new brood of three finally arrived back in the states, meeting with Scott and their other three children, Lola, Jackson and Kingston.

The family had finally been formed.

This Thanksgiving, seven years after Scott and Julie's lowest point, they will remember their lost sons, but also give thanks for what they've attained.

"I learned that you can do more than you think you can," said Julie. "You're stronger than you think you are. And you're willing to do anything for your kids -- whether they came from your body or not."

As we sit down and enjoy a day of food and football, remember to recognize and appreciate the most important aspect of life -- family.
