The greatest deep threat in NFL history may be getting long in the tooth, but also deep in experience. Bill Belichick once said Randy Moss was the smartest wide receiver he has ever coached. While in New England, Belichick would effuse praise on the mercurial receiver, saying his knowledge of coverage’s and defenses were superior. It wasn’t just wordplay; many veteran receivers couldn’t get the complicated Patriots system down in an entire year.

Head coach Jim Harnbaugh made his decision Thursday, but Akers isn't in the clear beyond Saturday. The team...
Justin Smith will be on an NFL field for the first time in four weeks, since he suffered a partially torn triceps tendon against the Patriots. Jim Harbaugh said he expects Smith to start Saturday’s game against the Packers.
Smith has still been limited in practice, and it is unknown at what percentage of strength he will be playing at this weekend. Considering he ended his extremely...

The San Francisco 49ers are sticking with struggling kicker David Akers for Saturday night's NFC playoff game against Green Bay. The 49ers signed veteran Billy Cundiff last week to challenge Akers for the job, but Akers won out during practices the past nine days. As Coach Harbaugh ponders what happened in 2012 and looks forward to the 2013 season, I believe there are three resolutions he needs to make with the team to help bring them to a better place in 2013. First of all it's time we make it back to a Super Bowl. It's been 18 years already, and as well all know, the 49ers are unique in that they've been to five Super Bowls...

The 49ers come into the game as the favorites and enjoy the home-field advantage, but also have to face the healthiest version of the Green Bay Packers since the first day of the season. Charles Woodson, Clay Matthews, and Donald...
