NFL.com is reporting that Chiefs new head coach, Andy Reid is very interested in Alex Smith, and that the Chiefs could step up as the top team to reach out for his services. The quotes from the San Francisco Chronicle from Reid in regards to Smith as told by Trent Dilfer is that he “really likes Alex.” Dilfer is a close friend of Smith, and a former 49ers quarterback. He also stated: “I don’t know a whole lot. I just know there was a courtship. It was not even an inside source, you know what I mean? It was just kind of the scuttle in the offseason,” “I think Andy wants to change a little bit offensively,…Alex is a guy with a huge capacity (to learn). You can give him a lot and he can handle it. Andy has always been able to get the most out of guys that don’t have extreme talent.” Sounds like a fresh start for all those involved. And while we’re still weeks away from the fate of Smith being made official, for now it does seem like Smith to the Chiefs would make a lot of sense.

Alex Smith Rumors: Bills, Cardinals, Eagles, Chiefs Interested in QB

Quarterback Alex Smith will not be a part of the San Francisco 49ers next year, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Rapoport adds that the 49ers will attempt to trade Smith early on, but they’ll release him quickly if no deal is completed out of respect for the former first-overall pick. Alex Smith will not be a member of #49ers next year. They will try to trade him first. Then...

Niners seek trade, not release, of Smith

Alex Smith has 7.5 million reasons to believe he won't be with the San Francisco 49ers next season, but the No. 1 overall selection of the 2005 NFL Draft has never been more in demand. Supplanted as the 49ers starting quarterback in November by multi-talented backup Colin Kaepernick, Smith, 28, figures to be the most sought-after veteran quarterback this offseason. He helped...

The Alex Smith Saga

If you just started following 49ers football yesterday, you would have heard breaking news from NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport that current backup Alex Smith will not be a member of the 49ers next season. Thank you, Captain Obvious. If you have followed 49ers football for at least the last seven years, you knew this time would eventually come and you also knew as soon as Colin Kaepernick...

The 49ers Looking to Shop Alex Smith

The 49ers are looking to rid themselves of the 7.5 million dollars Alex Smith will be paid in 2013. Reportedly the 49ers are actively shopping Alex Smith to potential suitors such as the Browns, Eagles, Bills, Chiefs and the Cardinals. Alex Smith catapulted the 49ers to an impressive 6-2 record this season after just taking them to the AFC Championship last year. Smith sustained...

Report: Alex Smith Will Not Be Member of 49ers Next Year, Will Be Traded or Released This Offseason

After being usurped as the 49ers starting quarterback by Colin Kaepernick this season, rumors have swirled that Alex Smith wants out of San Francisco. It appears the Niners will grant him that wish. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported via Twitter on Tuesday that the 49ers will attempt to trade Smith after their season ends this Sunday, and if that proves unsuccessful he will be respectfully...

Some Browns bits on Alex Smith, Leroy Hoard, Ray Horton, Ozzie Newsome and more

There’s not one topic I feel like talking about today as we endure a week of Super Bowl and Hall of Fame propoganda. The Browns introduced their defensive coordinator Ray Horton yesterday, but even that was putting a cap on old news. With that in mind, I thought I would just combine a bunch of things into one post today… Alex Smith to the Browns? So Brandon Weeden thought he...

Let Smith-to-Cards speculation commence

Oddly enough, maybe the two biggest stories out of Super Bowl week have been related to deer-antler spray (?) and the future of one team's backup quarterback. With rumors circulating that 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will request his release after the season, FOXSports.com reported Tuesday that the Niners instead will seek to trade their former starter in hopes of recouping...

Smith blends into background as 49ers' backup QB

NEW ORLEANS -- It's been 10 games since Alex Smith started for the 49ers, and most of the reminders that Colin Kaepernick is No. 1 on the depth chart aren't so subtle. Take Wednesday morning, for example. Players were scattered throughout a ballroom at their hotel after coach Jim Harbaugh ended a press conference with a horde of media. Prominent players were given podiums...

Alex Smith Interest In Reuniting With Browns OC Norv Turner?

Alex Smith told reporters that he “loved” playing for new Browns OC Norv Turner during their time together in San Francisco. “Loved my time with Norv,” said Smith, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “…He’s a great play caller. I just remember he had a great feel for the game on gameday and a great feel for what the defense was doing, and like I said...

49ers Owner Hopes To Keep Kaepernick And Alex Smith

Sometimes executives are the best at sugar-coating a situation and sprinkling BS on it.  The San Francisco 49ers replaced quarterback Alex Smith with Colin Kaepernick, because Smith frankly had hit his ceiling. Kaepernick has now led to Niners to a Super Bowl and Smith is looking for his immediate release.  If you ask owner Jed York, he’ll say not so fast. York dismissed Smith...

Chiefs could be interested in Alex Smith

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer says he know Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid “really likes Alex (Smith).” “There was a courtship last year, to a certain degree,” Dilfer said. Asked for specifics of Philadelphia’s dalliance with Smith, he said, “I don’t know a whole lot. I just know there was a courtship. It was not even an inside...
