The Patriots are getting some extra help on their offensive line, even if it may just be for a few days. Due to the roster exemption that New England received for Aqib Talib, the Patriots have signed a 54th player to their active roster, former Giants guard Mitch Petrus according to Field Yates of ESPN Boston. Petrus was drafted by New York in the fifth round in 2010 out of Arkansas. Petrus played 14 total snaps for the Giants this season as a reserve right guard before getting released on Nov. 3. Petrus started three games at left guard last season when David Baas‘ injury forced a shift in the offensive line. He was a member of the 2011 Giants Super Bowl champions. Starting left guard Logan Mankins was injured in Sunday’s game against the Bills. He reportedly left Gillette Stadium in a walking boot. The Patriots released Jeff Tarpinian on Monday, and according to Yates, the linebacker cleared waivers on Tuesday and is eligible for the practice squad. If the Patriots wish to play Talib on Sunday against the Colts, they would have to free up a roster spot.
