Gregg Williams offered cash for hitting San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith in the head during the 2011 NFC playoffs, and also implored New Orleans Saints defenders to exploit previous injuries by 49ers players, according to a report Thursday.
Already under an NFL investigation into bounties heading into his final game as the Saints' defensive coordinator, Williams allegedly instructed players to target the heads of 49ers running back Frank Gore and receiver/kick returner Kyle Williams, the knees/ACL of receiver Michael Crabtree's ACL and the ankles of star tight end Vernon Davis, according to audio recordings, Yahoo Sports reported.
