According to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com, Kansas City Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli made an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio and said that he expects head coach Romeo Crennel to also call the defensive plays since he is the teams former defensive coordinator.
“I’m not sure if he stated it publicly, but I get the sense Romeo wants to be the coordinator on defense,” Pioli said. “I don’t know if he’s made the absolute final decision, but I’m pretty sure that’s the way he wants to go.”
Crennel was the Chiefs defensive coordinator this past season and stepped in as the their interim head coach when former head coach Todd Haley was fired. Since then, Crennel has been officially promoted as the Chiefs head coach.
Despite an overall disappointing season for the Chiefs in 2011, I really believe it’s a good idea to have Crennel continue calling the defensive plays since they were the lone bright spot this past season.
