Quarterback Tony Romo had his way with the first-team defense in Sunday’s Blue-White intrasquad scrimmage at the Alamodome, completing 14 of 20 passes for 150 yards.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan took the brunt of the blame for the defense’s performance Sunday.

“We don’t like giving up points,” Ryan told Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth-Star Telegram. “Sometimes it happens. That is the way it is. But put it on me. I dusted off a couple of calls we hadn’t worked on. Put it on me; it’s my fault. The players will be fine.”

Ryan blamed the timeouts on substitution and communication problems from the sideline and said it won’t happen again.

“You have to look precise in some of those situations,” he said. “If not, it’s not going to look good. We got our butts handed to us. It’s all me.”
