According to Marc Sessler of NFL.com, the Buffalo Bills and safety Jairus Byrd are ‘far apart’ and it is unlikely a deal will be done by Monday’s July 15 deadline. As a franchise-tag designated player, Byrd will have to play under the one year tender and won’t be able to negotiate a new deal until the 2014 season starts. However, he hasn’t signed the tender and the team will have the right to lower the franchise tender if they so choose if he doesn’t sign it by Monday. "I would be completely and utterly shocked if there was a deal done by Monday," a league source familiar with the team told the station WGR-AM. "There are no talks going on. Someone would have to seriously cave," Sessler writes. "The reason why Byrd is getting tagged is for the simple fact that they just can't get a deal done," a second league source told the station. "From what I understand, they're pushing for numbers in and around what Eric Weddle is at and also keeping the Dashon Goldson deal in perspective, as well."
