Famous late New Orleans radio talk show personality Buddy Diliberto used to always say something to my buddy Ralph Malbrough that always resonated with me: "never listen to what they say, watch what they do" in reference to the Saints' front office. Watching their moves, the theory goes, would tell you everything you ever need to know about their thought process, while the words they share with the media only serve to further their agenda and paint public perception. So I watched them waive Johnny Patrick and upon further reflection it told me something. When the Saints released their 3rd round draft pick in 2010 Johnny Patrick, at first I wasn't that surprised. He had a miserable first two seasons with the team and just never seemed to live up to the high draft pick the Saints invested in him. Still, cutting a third round pick before year three is bad. All the more head scratching when you consider that he cost very little against the cap so the Saints didn&...

Saints restructure Colston's contract, three others

New Orleans Saints went on a swift restructuring frenzy, getting deals done with 4 players, most notably receiver Marques Colston, reports the Times Picayune. Colston's restructured deal, first reported by CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, converted $2.8 million of his base salary into signing bonus, creating $2.1 million in cap savings for 2013.

Saints reportedly want to re-sign Jermon Bushrod

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the New Orleans Saints want to keep offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod and plan on discussing a potential contract extension next week. The Saints need to make sure they keep Bushrod.  They can’t afford to lose another marquee offensive lineman for a second straight year.  The good news is that they have restructured the contracts of...

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that the Saints “have made it clear” that they want to re-sign impending free agent OT Jermon Bushrod. Breer adds that the two sides are expected to talk sometime next week, but the Saints still have some cap issues to address in the time being. Clearly, the fact that this year’s free agent class is loaded with offensive tackles is going...

Saints Nation: Top 5 Quarterbacks in Saints' History

Last week I wrote about the top playmakers in Saints history excluding quarterbacks. This week I figured I would write about the top 5 quarterbacks in Saints history. The Saints aren’t known, typically, for their quarterbacks. So some of these aren’t great per say, but nonetheless, here they are starting at 5. 5. Billy Kilmer: Kilmer played only 4 seasons with...

Saints Nation: Evaluating the Defense

This week I'm going to be talking about the elephant in the room, the defense. What does one say to friends/co-workers when their team's defense is this bad. What do you say? It becomes kinda comical after a certain point when your defense allows that kind of yardage and point gain in a single game, let alone a single season. They played well at times, for example in the...
