The Saints are expected to sign Patrick Ramsey on Thursday.
With the other two quarterbacks on the Saints roster other than Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees having zero combined NFL starts, the Saints are expected to sign journeyman quarterback Patrick Ramsey on Thursday.
Ramsey, who has played on five teams in his NFL career, will provide a legitimate insurance policy behind Brees. The Tulane product and former first-round draft pick has put up serviceable numbers during his career, with 35 touchdowns, 30 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 74.9.
The Saints backup quarterback position was held by veteran Mark Brunell for the past two seasons, where he played sparingly behind Brees. In a start on the final game of the 2009 season, Brunell underwhelmed the Saints staff by completing 15 of 29 passes for 102 yards and an interception. He is expected to sign with the Jets to backup rookie sensation Mark Sanchez in New York.
