ARLINGTON, Texas -- When it comes to Roger Staubach talking about his Cowboys, never is heard a discouraging word. So it was Thursday at AT&T Stadium, when about 40 Cowboys alums gathered (along with 10,000 fans) to watch this year's team practice, and then the former players gathered with present-day roster members to share stories over dinner. And as always, the legendary Staubach helped make the entire affair a feel-good night. Staubach on quarterback Tony Romo? "If there's a bigger Romo fan in town, I don't know who it is," Staubach said. "I want to argue with all my negative Romo fans and tell them how great this guy is. He makes plays. He's got a strong arm, and he just does a lot of good things out there that only a few quarterbacks in the league can do. I think you'll see more no-huddle offense. Tony's really good at it. He's a franchise quarterback." Staubach on wide receiver Dez Bryant? "If he stays healthy, there won't be a better receiver in the league than Dez Bryant," said Staubach, who noted that he spent part of the night playing catch with the budding star. "So I tested him out. He's a great receiver. The way he played (in the second half of) last year was fantastic and he seems like he's a good kid. He's getting his life together. He can be as good as any receiver in the National Football League." Staubach's forecast for the Cowboys' season? "We can be 11-5 in a second with a little luck and keeping people healthy, maybe 12-4," he said. "(But) you just want to get in the playoffs. This is a good team that needs to go to a higher level. And I think this is the year to do it."
