The 'Doug vs. Goliath' quiz

There is no shortage of underdog stories going into Super Bowl LII, as the Philadelphia Eagles attempt to take home the Lombardi Trophy from the favored and returning champion New England Patriots, but the greatest underdog matchup will stay on the sidelines. David, in the form of Eagles coach Doug Pederson, will attempt to fell Goliath, Bill Belichick, hooded in all his glory, with a perfectly slingshotted stone of dizzying offensive and defensive schemes and play-calling worthy of praise from the GOAT himself. But the question remains: Can Doug do it?

There is little doubt that Belichick is the greatest coach in the history of the NFL, and all sorts of mind-blowing stats support this claim. Whether it is the fact that he has the most playoff wins (28) by a long shot (next highest is 20), or that his tenure in the NFL has been rife with turnover for the other 31 teams, Belichick has a longstanding and undeniable history of winning. And he does so in unique fashion, now literally. Belichick routinely dismisses the media as if it were the AFC Championship Trophy, whether it be purposefully misidentifying social platforms or outright mocking their questions. Despite the grumpy demeanor, many expect Belichick will be a champion for a record sixth time.

But in the shadow of greatness stands a worthy adversary, and perhaps turning the magical age of 50 on this January 31 is the extra push Doug Pederson needs for victory. We can see the stark difference of Pederson’s friendly and accessible personality at Media Night as he engages Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel Live. Doug has beaten Bill before, both as a starting quarterback for the Browns and as Brett Favre’s backup in Super Bowl XXXI. With a win on Sunday, Pederson will become just the fourth person to ever win the Super Bowl as player and head coach. Rumor has it, he will be calling on a favor from an old friend to pep up the Eagles before the big game. Hopefully, it helps.

Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. Last year, we chronicled the Super Bowl losing coaches in this space following Dan Quinn’s meme-worthy choke job, so it only seems fitting to honor the winners this time around. With that in mind, how many of the Super Bowl winning coaches can you name in six minutes?

Good luck!
