The 49ers have waived 28-year old WR Braylon Edwards.  Edwards played in 9 games for the Niners this year and he caught 15 passes for 181 yards (12.1 avg).  He has now played in 99 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has caught 341 passes for 5,323 yards (15.6 avg) with 39 TD grabs.  It’s kind of surprising that the Niners cut Edwards, but they must think that he isn’t better than the guys they already have at WR.  It’s hard for me to question the 49ers right now as the are rolling.

Braylon Edwards Dropped, Not By Ted Ginn

One of the most obvious points that can be made – and surely has been made – about the San Francisco 49ers this season is that Alex Smith could be even better than his current just-good-enough status if he had a clear cut No. 1 receiver. Even without one, he’s still managed to put together a decent enough statline of 3,000 yards (most likely) with 16 TDs and only 5 INTs. Somewhere...
