The young Vernon Davis once looked up to the likelihoods of Steve Smith and Chad Johnson, thinking that demanding for the ball wasn’t simply the best, but the only route that he had to take in order to shine in the NFL. The seventh-year tight end has called his own hot-route and completely adjusted his mentality. As the team was winning and having success, I’d probably have been the one complaining,” Davis said Thursday as he sat in a small office at the 49ers’ training facility, where he and his teammates were preparing for the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance in 18 years . “I would have probably been in the media, making a scene, going to the coach and just being a cancer to the team. According to MIchael Silver of Yahoo! Sports, Davis has “undergone a dramatic attitude adjustment.”  From rich in selfishness, an issue former coach Mike Singletary called out his tight end for, to poor in spirit, Davis has showcased his humility by not complaining about his six receptions for 61 yards in the final six games of the regular season. Davis, conceded that he had diva qualities, “”As I think back, I think I was more concerned with the guys before me … guys like Steve Smith and Chad Johnson [who] wanted the ball. It was like, ‘Throw me the ball.’ So I looked up to those guys and figured that that was the way to go…” I think this dramatic change came after after last year’s playoff win against the New Orleans Saints, in which Vernon Davis made a tough grab against a torpedoing Roman Harper at the front end of the goal line. After he came down on the soft patch of the end zone grass in front of 49ers fans at Candlestick  Park, the tight end drafted from the University of Maryland broke into tears. His game-winning reception with 14 seconds left lifted his team to the NFC Championship Game, a battle they lost against the Giants. Davis had a strong outing last week (5 catches, 106 yard effort) on the road and the 49ers will need him to show up larger than before. I’m positive that Davis’ maturity will not sway, win or lose, in the grand finale.
