Michael Vick has taken exception to a line of questioning that has asked him if he will try harder to guard his health this season.

Whether he understands it or not, the success of the Philadelphia Eagles in this most crucial of seasons is tied to the health of their starting Quarterback, Michael Vick.

This is not Vick’s first time around the block in the NFL, and Vick has a lengthy track record of playing a dangerous style of football for a QB. It’s also not Michael Vick’s first year in Philadelphia. He should know better by now. The fact that he bristles at questions about what he’s going to do to try to stay healthier this season infuriates me. And they should infuriate everyone.

Like it or not, reporters, journalists and bloggers are the only link that fans have to players. That means it is the job of those aforementioned individuals to act as a liaison between players and fans. Reporters are not asking questions to satisfy their curiosities or to piss people off. They are asking the questions that fans want to know the answers to.

And fans of the Philadelphia Eagles want to know if Michael Vick is getting it yet. He clearly didn’t get it last year, playing the same hard-nosed style he has always played, consequently leaving the team with Vince Young to try to win a few games that this team really needed in crunch time. Young didn’t succeed. Vick, likely would have, but he missed three games and left two others early.

Vick’s health could have been the difference between the 8-8 debacle last year and a 9-7 or 10-6 finish and a trip to the playoffs.

Michael Vick has his money now, so I suppose he doesn’t need to be as obliging as he has been the last several years when his future and finances were all still in doubt.

I’m so sorry that fans want to know if this team can actually compete for the Super Bowl title that has eluded the Eagles for… Well, forever. I’m sorry that you have to answer a couple of questions over and over. But I’m more sorry about the fact that you, Mr. Vick, see it as an inconvenience to give the fans of this city the answers to the questions they have.

After all, it was Philadelphia that was here for you when the rest of the world wanted nothing to do with you. It was these fans who supported you. It was this coach and this organization that provided you the opportunity to ressurect your career and rehab your public image, AND then paid you $100 million.

Maybe you can think about them for one second and realize that without these fans, this city, this coach and this organization, you’d be nowhere.
