FOXBORO, MA - DECEMBER 4: Quarterback Brooks Bollinger #5 of the New York Jets gets ready at the line of scrimmage during the game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on December 4, 2005 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (Photo by Nick Laham/Getty Images)
This week, we’ve already been over the struggles the Jets have had at quarterback in their history. Today, we remember Brooks Bollinger.  We should remember that there was a time when Brooks Bollinger was actually a top-tier quarterback. But that wasn’t in the NFL. It was in college, when he was at Wisconsin doing his best Jim Sorgi impression. The Jets eventually drafted Bollinger in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL draft, and by 2005, he was actually the starting quarterback in New York. That wasn’t necessarily because Bollinger was the deserving guy to be under center. It was more because he was the luckiest one. The Jets’ 2005 season was one of the more disappointing ones in recent franchise history. Chad Pennington got hurt and missed most of the year. Then his backup, Jay Fiedler, immediately went down with the injury. That left the Jets with an unreliable third-string quarterback: Brooks Bollinger. The Jets were so desperate for a quarterback in ’05 that they even signed the washed up elderly Vinny Testaverde. Bollinger started nine games that year and threw for a career-high 1,558 yards and seven touchdowns. He only started one more game in his career after that season. Bollinger retired in 2008 after stints with the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys. He is currently the quarterbacks coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Like this?
