The Green Bay Packers will most likely use the 2014 NFL Draft to address their many needs on the defensive side. However, if they do chose to target an offensive position it will be tight end. The Packers future in the tight end position is uncertain with starters Jermichael Finley and Andrew Quarless both headed for free agency. So, will the Packers be selecting a tight end in this years NFL Draft? To answer this question let’s first look at who the Packers already have on their roster. At the tight end position Green Bay will return Brandon Bostick, Ryan Taylor, Jake Stoneburner, and newly signed Raymond Webber. Of those players only Bostick and Taylor will more than likely be on the Packers opening day roster. Taylor, Stoneburner, and Webber project more as special teams players leaving Bostick as the only possibility to be the tight end catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. The Packers will need to add a tight end who is a receiver threat but also has the ability to block for Eddie Lacy. Do any of this years prospects fit that description? The one player who stands out is Iowa Senior C.J Fiedorowicz. Fiedorowicz, unlike top tight end prospect Eric Ebron, is a “complete” tight end meaning that he excels as a receiver and a blocker. Fiedorowicz is a large man standing at 6-5 and weighing 265 lbs. He would be a welcome addition to the new physical approach the Packers have with Eddie Lacy. Fiedorowicz is a hard worker who wants to help an NFL team in anyway that he can. He even has experience playing fullback. Fiedorowicz makes sense for the Packers in a value sense as he should be available in the middle rounds. To see the list of top 10 TEs in this year’s draft, CLICK HERE.
