FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt dismissed a report by ESPN.coms Adam Schefter that John Skelton has emerged as the favorite to win the starting quarterback job over Kevin Kolb. As far as favorites and long shots, I really havent ever thought of it in those terms, Whisenhunt said at his daily lunch-time press conference. Weve always been true to what weve said. Were going to stick to the process. Whisenhunt said Kolb will start this week against the Raiders as originally planned, and the Cardinals coaching staff will let it play itself out. Neither quarterback has impressed thus far in the preseason. Through two games, Kolb has completed just 2 of 9 passes for 25 yards with one interception. Skelton is 7 of 12 for 67 yards and an interception. Both struggled last week in a loss to Kansas City. Most who cover the team on a regular basis think the job is Kolbs to lose, given the investment the Cardinals made in him when they acquired him from Philadelphia: 2009 Pro Bowl cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a second-round pick and the five-year contract extension they gave him worth a maximum of 63 million. But Kolb may be losing his advantage with his performance thus far. Aside from the persistent questions about his durability following multiple injuries the past two seasons, he still hasnt demonstrated good pocket presence. On the flip side, Skelton has struggled with his accuracy and his reads in camp, and exhibits a tendency to lock onto one receiver. The Cardinals have two games left to sort out the mess (neither will play much, if at all, in the teams fifth preseason game). I dont go through it on a daily basis, Whisenhunt said. If you did that youd be changing your evaluations every day. You kind of have to look at the whole thing. Follow Craig Morgan on Twitter
