How Matt Ryan became “Matty Ice”

He wasn’t always “Matty Ice” to everybody. Going into the 2004 season at Boston College, he was just Matt. He was a young quarterback fighting for a starting job at a mediocre football school. Now he’s a three time pro-bowler with all major passing records in Falcons history. Now he’s the quarterback that has led comeback after comeback for the Falcons and brought a city...

5 Greatest New York Giants Games of All-Time: #5- 1958 NFL Championship

In 1925, just five years after the National Football League was founded, Tim Mara founded a franchise that he named the New York “Football” Giants, in order to differentiate it from the existing New York Giants’ baseball organization. One of five teams that joined the NFL that year, the Giants are the only team that still exists 90 seasons later. During their now almost century...

San Diego Chargers QB Phillip Rivers Broke Record Previously Held By Johnny Unitas and Kurt Warner Last Week

Phillip Rivers is awesome. The fiery veteran has given bloggers all sorts of material over the years with his wild displays of emotion. When this guy is happy it's obvious; angry--ditto. Johnny Unitas and Ray Lewis — Baltimore legends, immortalized together

Ground is breaking in Baltimore, and we’re not talking new property. It looks like the Johnny Unitas statue, which stands at the end of Ravens Walk, will have some company very soon. The Baltimore Ravens honored “The Golden Arm” back in October of 2002, a month after his passing. Unitas brought Baltimore fans a lot of excitement in his years as a Baltimore Colt. A legacy such...

For my money, Sonny Jurgensen was better than Johnny Unitas…

I know this sounds like blasphemy, but I thought Sonny Jurgensen should have beaten out Johnny Unitas in the recent NFLN poll ranking the game’s greatest quarterbacks. This is not homerism either… as Jurgensen played the bulk of his career with the Washington Redskins. But Sonny was originally drafted and groomed by the Eagles. And man did he produce in the seven years he was...

Johnny Unitas, move over…

Well, that didn’t take long. Just one full season after his retirement, the Ravens announced plans to unveil a statue of Ray Lewis outside of M&T Bank Stadium for the 2014 season.  Frederick Kail, the sculptor who was commissioned to complete the Unitas statue in 2002, is apparently already “well into it,” and though the organization hasn’t tangibly seen the progress...
