Kyle Orton represents a new direction for the Cowboys when it comes to their backup quarterbacks.
Previous backups like Jon Kitna and Brad Johnson have been near the end of line in their NFL careers. Johnson had actually crossed the line, but the Cowboys didn't know it until his near-disastrous stint filling in for Romo in 2008.

With Jon Kitna retiring, the Dallas Cowboys have apparently focused their attention on signing veteran quarterback Kyle Orton to backup Tony Romo.

According to Ryan O’Halloran of CSNWashington, even though the Washington Redskins are interested in acquiring Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, one other player they might look to sign is free agent Kyle Orton.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. It's common practice across the NFL to bring the starting quarterback to the podium for a weekly news conference. It often beats the alternative: A bunch of reporters and cameramen crowded around his locker.
