The Pittsburgh Penguins completely and utterly dominated the New York Islanders in game one of their Stanley Cup Playoff series, winning 5-0.  Beau Bennett got things started early on the power play less than five minutes into the game by beating Evgeni Nabokov with this ridiculous shot.  Nabokov had literally no chance, this is one of the most perfect shots I’ve ever seen.  To beat Nabokov short side high-glove from that angle is absolutely ridiculous.  This looks like it could be a very lopsided playoff series. While it is up in the air whether he will be in the lineup for the...

Video: Penguins Neal Viciously Slashed by Islanders Hamonic, Doesn’t Return

James Neal was viciously slashed by NY Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic during a Penguins 5 on 3 powerplay in the second period of Wednesday night’s playoff game.  While it is being speculated that Neal had a lower body injury after a clean check by Hamonic, you can clearly see in the first video that it is Neal’s right hand that is being checked on the bench. Neal went...

The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the most-watched teams in America

The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the most-watched teams in America. While the previous sentence might sound like some form of nonsensical gloating you might hear from a sports fan, it's actually pretty accurate according to a recent article from Sports Business Daily.  The report states that prior to their final few games of 2013 the Penguins were on pace to post the highest...

Penguins set tone with 5-0 romp over Islanders

The rookie scored. So did the enforcer. The Norris Trophy-candidate defenseman too. And the underrated forward in the midst of a career season did it twice. Not bad for a team missing arguably the best player on the planet. The Pittsburgh Penguins crushed the New York Islanders 5-0 in their playoff opener on Wednesday night, looking very much like a Stanley Cup contender even with...

Tracking the Playoffs: Islanders vs. Penguins (Game 1)

Just because the Hurricanes are out of it doesn't mean my tracking days are over. I'll be doing various stat tracking for every playoff game this year and will be posting scoring chance reports here for the ones I'm able to do live. I'll have reports for the other games posted at a later date (possibly after each series is over), but scoring chances will come a day...

A Few Moments from Penguins-Islanders History

Obviously this isn't the complete history of the two teams playing against one another, but here are some key moments in Penguins/Islanders history. 1975 That video pretty much explains the situation. The Islanders came back from a 0-3 hole to eliminate the Penguins. 1982 The Pens were pretty much annihilated by the Islanders in the first two games...
