Brad Richards won a Conn Smythe under John Tortorella in 2004 when the two were teaming up to win a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. That now seems like a very, very long time ago. The two are now in New York, of course, and Tortorella will go into Thursday’s do-or-die Game 4 against the Bruins without Richards. The head coach has decided to make Richards a healthy scratch for Game 4, a seemingly unprecedented move, even with the forward’s recent struggles. That’s not the only change Tortorella will make for his Game 4 lineup. Forward Arron Asham will also be a healthy scratch as the Rangers look to climb out of a 3-0 series whole. Kris Newbury and Micheal Haley, who have one Stanley Cup playoff game between the two of them, will be in for Richards and Asham. Defenseman Anton Stralman, who sufferd an injury in Game 3, is also expected to be out. The initial speculation is that veteran blue liner Roman Hamrlik will replace Stralman. The big story, though, is Richards. The ve...

Torts fires back at media over Richards

Rangers coach John Tortorella was at his potty-mouthed best when discussing his feelings about Brad Richards after making the veteran a healthy scratch for Game 4.

Report: Rangers may buy out Richards

From ESPN InsiderAs soon as the news broke that forward Brad Richards was pegged to be a healthy scratch for Game 4, talk of pending compliance buyout resumed with fresh energy. And not without reasonable justification.  If the 33-year-old center isn't going to be part of the New York Rangers' long-term plans, he very well may be bought out this summer. Carrying an annual...

Rangers scratch Richards for Game 4

Struggling Rangers center Brad Richards said he will be a healthy scratch when New York faces elimination in Game 4 against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. Richards, a star player earning $12 million this season, stayed on the ice with the extras Thursday during the morning skate. He then confirmed that Rangers coach John Tortorella had called to tell him he would be sitting...

John Tortorella to critics of Brad Richards decision: ‘Kiss my a**’

There was once a time when New York Rangers center Brad Richards was one of the better offensive players in the league. Just three years ago, he racked up 24 goals and a whopping 67 assists in a single season. On Thursday night, that same Brad Richards was a healthy scratch for Game 4 against the Boston Bruins. With his team in a 0-3 hole, Rangers coach John Tortorella decided it...

NHL playoffs: Best of Thursday

All the hoopla before Game 4 between the Rangers and Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Thursday revolved around New York coach John Tortorella's decision to make Brad Richards a healthy scratch. Richards is making $12M this year, but only has one goal in the playoffs. He's also a Conn Smythe Trophy winner, AND won the Cup with Torts as his coach when the two were with the...

John Tortorella explains his decision to sit Brad Richards

Classic John Tortorella, the guy is a gem. Earlier in the game, Torts was caught on audio cussing out a lines man and dropping the F-bomb. In the course of one night, Torts cussed out the on-ice officials and told the writers to kiss his ass and won a hockey, so he keeps his job for at least another day... It pretty much sounds like he's going to get fired if the Rangers don...

Brad Richards Scratched for Game 4, Roman Hamrlik Will Play

New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella announced that Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch for tonight's Game 4 against the Boston Bruins. The Rangers will also play defenseman Roman Hamrlik in place of the injured Anton Stralman. Richards has been struggling throughout the playoffs and has been playing on the fourth line. Richards played a postseason-low 8:10 in Game...

NY Rangers Coach John Tortorella Screams ‘F*ck You’ At Ref (Video)

Torts is just being Torts. Rangers Coach and Darth Vader’s step brother, John Tortorella let a linesman have it during Thursday’s game 4 against the Bruins in the 3rd period. After a delayed call by the officials let the Bruins have a second shot at a goal Torts proceeded to go crazy. Tortorella of course has a reputation of being a hot head, but this kind of language is...

Richards, Asham Out; Haley, Newbury, Hamrlik In

While it's really not all that surprising considering his performance and lack of ice time in the playoffs, I'm still in shock to read that Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch in Game 4 tonight. According to Katie Strang at ESPN.com, John Tortorella called Richards at home this morning to break the news to him. Richards admitted he was surprised and disappointed...

Jeff Gorton, Bruins Give Hope For The Future

Suffice to say that a 3-0 series deficit was not the plan. The powerplay is more miserable than it has ever been, and that is saying a lot. Brad Richards has, in one season, gone from playoff hero to playoff zero. Injuries are affecting important players. The Rangers look like a team with no confidence.  That being said, at some point we have to acknowledge that the Bruins...

John Tortorella & a Ref Exchanged F-Bombs last night

John Tortorella and a linesman exchange **** yous. And then, at the post game presser, JT tells the media to kiss his ass if they're not going to write up the Brad Richards story... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

No Indication From Rangers Organization That Torts' Job In Jeopardy

While there has been wild speculation that John Tortorella could be fired if the Rangers are swept or lose in a short series to the Bruins, Jeff Klein at the New York Times says that scenario doesn't seem likely... "There have been no indications from the Rangers’ organization that Tortorella’s job is in jeopardy, as there were in the weeks leading to the firing...

Torts Gone If Rangers Eliminated By Bruins?

Darren Dreger at TSN made some waves on the radio today when he said this about John Tortorella's future with the Rangers should his team be eliminated quickly by the Bruins... "If the New York Rangers were to be eliminated in short order by the Boston Bruins, is there a chance John Tortorella is replaced? Yes there is a chance, absolutely. No question about it. Glen...

ECSF Game 4 preview: One game at a time

COREY SIPKIN/NEW YORK DAILY NEWS The Rangers are facing a steep climb to get back into this series, but it all starts with one game. As Kevin said yesterday, one shift at a time. If you win each shift, you’ll win the game, and that should be the priority for the Rangers. The biggest news is that Brad Richards is a healthy scratch and Anton Stralman is out tonight with an undisclosed...
