Along with everything else that comes with turning in the top collective performance last season by a rookie, Jeff Skinner has had to deal with something else at the start of this season.
Would he be able to maintain the pace that made him so productive and popular?
So far, apparently he has.
"Obviously, he heard 'sophomore jinx' a thousand times during the summer," coach Paul Maurice said.
Skinner scored two goals Tuesday night in the Hurricanes' 4-2 victory over visiting Tampa Bay.
For Skinner, the important part has been to build on what he has accomplished.
"We expect him to continue on that progress," Maurice said. "He's probably at the same level as he was when he finished last year. But he's quite a bit ahead of where he was when he started last year."
Skinner will take his six goals this season into Friday night's home game against Washington.
