To say “things aren’t going according to plan” is an understatement if you’re the Buffalo Sabres. The team has either not qualified or hasn’t advanced past the first round of the playoffs in five seasons, which will soon become six after this season is officially over.  Lindy Ruff, a man who has been a fixture behind the Sabres’ bench since 1997, was fired mid-season and was replaced by Ron Rolston. Jason Pominville was traded to the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline, and now there are rumors that Thomas Vanek may be shopped around. With so much negativity surrounding the organization emotions can boil to the surface.  On Tuesday, those emotions boiled over on Twitter. An exchange took place between Mike Harrington, who is a Sabres beat writer for the Buffalo News, Sabres center Steve Ott, and Erica Halbrook, who happens to be Ott’s fiance.   It would help to explain where the original tweet from Harrington came from. On Tuesday, Harrington wrote an art...

Steve Ott Calls Booing From Buffalo Fans ‘Completely Ridiculous,’ Hopes for ‘Positive Atmosphere’

Steve Ott‘s feelings have been hurt. After beating the New Jersey Devils 3-2 on Sunday evening, the Buffalo center let his feelings about the hometown crowd be known to reporters. Ott said that the crowd was booing the team “every chance they had” during long stretches of play in the Sabres’ end. On Tuesday, however, Ott went even further, blasting his hometown fans in a...

Family affair: Steve Ott and fiancee call out Buffalo beat writer on Twitter

To say “things aren’t going according to plan” is an understatement if you’re the Buffalo Sabres. Report: Miller, Vanek Likely Out Of Buffalo This Summer

Another day, another report of Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek being on their way out of Buffalo. Continue reading "Report: Miller, Vanek Likely Out Of Buffalo This Summer"

GARTH: Web Gem

Pardon the gratuitous pumping of Steve Ott’s tires. The guy deserves a fist-pump and an high-five for changing the culture in the Buffalo room. The water bottle is NEVER half full when Otter’s in the room, on the bench, on the ice, at the hotel, or in the air on the team charter. Otter’s fiercely passionate about his teammates and he’s never going to quit...

Kevin Freiheit: Who is more valuable: Vanek or Miller?

With a loss to Winnipeg, Buffalo currently has a 2.3% chance of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs, according to Sports Club Stats. It's basically over. Even if the Sabres were to go 7-1 or 8-0 for the rest of the season, they still would need help from other teams. I wanted to answer a few questions that were submitted this week. I can't tell you how many questions regarding...

GARTH: Vanek Ready To Go

Thomas Vanek will be back in the lineup tonight in The Peg. Vanek is on the ice. He will be a game time decision. Bet on the fact that he will be playing tonight, after missing six games with an upper body muscle strain. Vanek-Ennis-Stafford in warm-ups. What becomes of Marcus Foligno? Will 82 sit and 65 play, or, vice versa? Will Marcus run with Porter and Flynn...

Kevin Freiheit: Stayin' alive

The Sabres survived in last night's victory. If it weren't for Ryan Miller, they wouldn't have won that game. The Devils were all over Buffalo and took almost 40 shots on goal. The Sabres may not have deserved the win, but they got it. One thing I noticed over the past couple of home games is that the crowd has really been into it. The games were not sellouts, but...

Don't fall for the booooooing argument

About a year ago, the drunks boys over at Dear God, Why Us? Sports planned one of their occupy Nassau trips to see the Sabres battle the Islanders. At the time, the Sabres had just come off that January road trip from hell. So we didn't go into the game feeling particularly good about them. At one point, some of us in the group started to heckle Ryan Miller. I have absolutely...

GARTH: Zero Dark N9NE

Thanks, Dan Hickling The puck will drop on the Sabres playoffs tonight at 8pm in The Peg. A regulation win will pull Buffalo into a 9th place tie with Winnipeg (40 point). The rangers and Islanders are tied for 8th place with 42 points. Buckle your chin strap! The team will hit the ice momentarily. I expect Thomas Vanek to not only skate, but play tonight. ...

Peter Tessier: Buffalo Pounded

Want more hockey thoughts? Follow me on Twitter HERE Despite an out of town scoreboard that was far from favorable to the Winnipeg Jets the home team did what it could to improve their chances of having post-season play. Simply put they pounded the Sabres. Forget the hulking mass of a pylon that is John Scott, a guy who seems to have no trouble looking to cause trouble for...
