A Boston Bruin hand delivered and personally gave a ‘Boston Strong’-resembled Army Rangers jacket to a young man who has overcame and continues to overcome many obstacles. He draped the Boston-famous Army Rangers jacket across the 19-year-old on Thursday, demonstrating what a class act is. The Army Rangers jacket has been a major symbol of strength for the city of Boston, following the Boston Bombings on Apr. 15, 2013. The jacket represents the mind-set of “Rangers lead the way.” Andrew Ference, former Boston Bruins defenseman, is leaving to play for the Edmonton Oilers, his hometown. However, his pre-departure included a stop by a house in a suburb outside of Boston, called Norwood. Ference announced, via twitter, that he gave his jacket to Matt Brown, a teenager from Norwood who, in January of 2010, was paralyzed in a high school ice hockey game as a 16-year-old. Brown has been a major inspiration for countless people, especially Boston Bruins players – in particular, Ference. The tweet reads, “This jacket represents a lot of things. I couldn’t think of a more worthy final recipient than you bud,” followed by Brown’s personal twitter account, @mjb_3. Brown responded, to his amazing gift from a well-respected and now-former Bruin, with astonishment and respect. He tweeted a picture with Ference, saying, “This is why hockey players are some of the greatest people in the world.” Coincidently enough, the jacket that Ference received was from Sgt. Lucas Carr, who has been Brown’s running partner in multiple races, 5Ks, marathons, etc. Sgt. Carr and Brown were planned to run together for the Boston Marathon. Due to sickness, Brown did not run, however Sgt. Carr did run on that fateful day, Apr. 15. Sgt. Carr was near the finish line when the bombs went off. The very moment the incident occurred, Sgt. Carr went into protective-mode and immediately went to aide victims who were affected by the explosions. For Ference to give the jacket, a symbol of strength, courage and sacrifice, to Brown shows just how much of a class act an athlete can be.
