According to Columbus Dispatch beat writer Aaron Portzline, two significant pieces of news emerged from last week's meeting of the Columbus Blue Jackets' owners. The first is that Jeff Carter is on the trading block seven months after he was acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers. The second is that the men who made that trade — team president Mike Priest and GM Scott Howson — are both likely to be retained even after this catastrophic season. Can you believe that? It's their team. It's their money. It's their call. But is there any logical, sane argument that could be made for keeping either or both men in control of the franchise if they turn around and trade Carter, affirming their initial deal for him as one of the worst in team history? No wonder Blue Jackets fans are protesting. When he traded Jakub Voracek and two draft picks that would become centers Sean Couturier and Nick Cousins, Howson proclaimed that Carter was the No. 1 center the team coveted and ne...

‘Occupy’ Movement Has Carried Over To Columbus Blue Jackets Fans

It is said that if you push a person so far, they will eventually push back – that believe has now become reality for Columbus Blue Jackets fans. The Blue Jackets easily occupy the 30th position in the National Hockey League (NHL), posting a horrid record of 13-30-6.  Were the Blue Jackets a rebuilding team with a limited team payroll that would be understandable.  However...

Can Richards keep Blue Jackets' attention?

It's a sad state of affairs in Columbus. The Blue Jackets' season was pretty much over at the All-Star break, and interim coach Todd Richards already was worried about keeping the players engaged and interested. "What I'm interested in seeing is if we are going to show up," Blue Jackets interim coach Todd Richards said before Tuesday's game vs. Tampa Bay...

Report- 2013 All-Star Game In Columbus

The game is one of the NHL’s marquee events and would be, possibly, one of the most...

Should the Preds Target Jeff Carter?

Photo Courtesy Yahoo Sports In between the first and second period of last night’s Montreal\Detroit blowout, Darren Dreger of TSN dropped a bombshell:  “Jeff Carter is 100 percent available.” While there’s been some idle speculation for a while now, this was the first definitive statement anyone had made on the matter.  Prior to this point, we know Carter...

The Word Is Out

ColumbusDispatch.com To be clear, it is not the place of this blog – certainly this reporter – to call for anybody's head. But it’s painfully obvious that something significant must be done to salvage what has become the biggest mess in the NHL. Minor moves won’t cut it. It can't be player in, player out. Can’t be just pending UFA for future draft pick. It...

WinterHawks Swept In Spokane; Ross, Gabriel Ejected On Sunday

The WinterHawks have relied all season on their offensive prowess to carry the team. Last weekend in Spokane, both their defense and their offense were simply offensive. The Spokane Chiefs swept the Hawks over the weekend, winning Saturday 5-2, and finishing on Sunday 6-1. With the losses, the WinterHawks failed to capitalize on Tri-City’s losses to Spokane on Friday and to...

Just A Bad Team

from Aaron Portzline of Puck-Rakers, The annual break for the NHL All-Star Game is supposed to be a happy, restful time for the league and its fans. Not so in Columbus, where the one-week gap between games seems only to extend the misery of a sad, lost campaign. Losing is not new to the Blue Jackets, but across the timeline of nine coaches, 10 non-playoff seasons and one brief playoff...
