FRIDAY'S STORY LINE: The injuries keep piling up for the Minnesota Wild. Center Mikko Koivu will not play Saturday against the New York Islanders. Minnesota's captain, who leads the team with 28 points, was injured during Thursday's loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, and coach Mike Yeo says Koivu is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. "You see him go off the ice and you hold your breath a little bit, but there we got good news," Yeo said. "It is not a real serious injury, and he shouldn't be out for an extended period of time." The Wild will also most likely be without forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard (upper body), who is still recovering from the brutal hit Tuesday in Winnipeg. Bouchard, who missed significant time the past two seasons because of a concussion is not suffering concussion symptoms. However, Yeo said the Wild will be cautious with the forward. With forwards Devin Setoguchi (lower body) and Guillaume Latendresse (upper body) out as well, Minnesota's forward lines were patched together during Friday's practice. But Yeo said as long as the Wild keep to their structure, the combinations shouldn't matter. "There shouldn't be too much of a learning curve for a line to get together," he said. "They should be doing the same things on that line as they should be doing on the other line." Maintaining a structured and disciplined approach is one reason the Wild have been able to successfully battle through injuries. "The biggest thing for us is our game is not going to change, our identity is not going to change," Yeo said. "Certainly, we are going to miss some skill, but we have to go out and do the same things that make us successful as a hockey team, and I believe that we are capable of that." Yeo said the team has not yet made a decision if it will call up another forward. HE SAID IT: "It is just another opportunity for us for us to rise to a challenge here, and I think that's been one of the things that has been the best part of the story for us: our ability to face adversity. . . We have seen our share already this year and we rose to that challenge. I expect us to do the same, but it is just another opportunity for us to build that winning culture and just continue to prove we are a team full of character." -- Yeo on facing so many injuries
