The Tennessean's Josh Cooper reported Sunday morning that Rich Clune would not be suspended for his hit on Artem Anisimov Saturday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The hit came 9:37 left in the first period. Clune hit Anisimov well after the puck was released and left his feet for the big hit. After the play, Anisimov slowly came back to his feet and was bloodied in the eye region. At the bench, he was cleaned up by a Blue Jackets' trainer. Clune was given a major for interference and a game misconduct. After looking at the hit in the morning, the NHL said the hit was legal and did not qualify for supplemental discipline because impact was made .45 seconds after the Columbus forward released the puck. Clune is lucky he isn't going to receive any discipline because of his past history. He was fined earlier this season for boarding Aaron Palushaj on February 18. Losing Clune, a hard nosed fourth liner that plays well under Barry Trotz's system, would be devastating. So often he creates scoring chances by working down low and throwing pucks in front. With the lack of forward depth the team has now, they can't afford to lose another one that can help scoring goals.
