In what was an otherwise uneventful final informal practice before training camp opens this weekend, the Rick Nash-Brad Richards-Marian Gaborik line was broken up a day after they were finally united. Here's the lines and d pairings (via Daily News)... Carl Hagelin-Brad Richards-Rick Nash Marian Gaborik-Derek Stepan-Ryan Callahan Taylor Pyatt -Brian Boyle-Chris Kreider Mike Rupp-Jeff Halpern-Arron Asham Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi Marc Staal-Anton Stralman Michael Del Zotto-Stu Bickel Steve Eminger-Matt Gilroy ...man, this guy from NYU, who's overseeing the informal practices, is worse than Torts. Obviously, I wouldn't put a second of thought into these lines. The Rangers did receive a scare at practice as Dan Girardi limped off the ice and into the locker room after blocking a shot with his leg. He did return to the ice and looked fine. ...guess Girardi's in mid-season form. One number change was reported by Pat Leonard at the Dail...

Brooks: Rangers ask Redden to sit the season out

So long Wade. One day after we discussed how Wade Redden might need to be an emergency call up if the injuries mount, Larry Brooks noted that the Rangers will ask Redden to sit the season out: It appears Wade Redden will sit out the season at home at the Rangers’ request in order to ensure he does not get hurt and thus jeopardize the planned postseason compliance buyout of the...

The Luongo Rule and Brad Richards

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images One point of the new CBA that negatively affects the Rangers is the new “Luongo Rule.” This rule was designed to punish teams that circumvented the last CBA and signed players to back-diving deals. The Rangers have one of these deals in Brad Richards, who made $12 million in his two years of his nine-year deal, and sees his salary drop to $1 million...

Del Zotto’s next move is critical to his Rangers career

Big decision looming for MDZ Michael Del Zotto needs to be very conscious of how the next few days play out. How the young blueliner deals with the contract situation and the start of the upcoming abbreviated season is – to an extent – a crossroad in his young Rangers career. The Rangers fan base can be an unforgiving one. When the crowd turns on you, the Garden can be a tough...

Report: Rangers give Redden permission to seek trade

The New York Rangers have given permission to Wade Redden's agent to talk to other NHL teams to try to arrange a trade, the New York Post's Larry Brooks reported. Redden, a defenseman, has two years remaining on a six-year, $39 million deal, but he spent the past two seasons in the minors and is not in the Rangers' plans. He will not be invited to the Rangers'...

Kreider Needs Stitches on First Day Back

Bret Cyrgalis at the New York Post reports that during his first day back with his Rangers teammates, Chris Kreider took a puck to the face necessitating three or four stitches. Apparently, during a 3-on-1 drill, he just missed taking a pass and lunged forward, and the puck deflected off the stick of Anton Stralman sending it quickly into his upper lip. Here's the damage...

Rangers Give Redden Permission to Talk With Other Teams

Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that the Rangers have given Wade Redden permission to speak with other NHL teams about a possible trade. Under the new CBA, teams can retain some (up to 50%) of the player's salary/cap they are trading. Brooks thinks this might be an option the Rangers use to entice a team into a trade for Redden, who has another year left on his...

Boyle Hotter Than Lundqvist? Now You Talkin' Crazy

On Tuesday, Cosmopolitan released their 2013 list of hottest hockey players. Apparently, the way they decided to create the list was to have their readers nominate a hottie from each team. So, the Rangers representative is obviously Henrik Lundqvist...right? I mean you can't have a hottest hockey player list and not include Hank. Right? I guess you can, as teammate Brian...

Del Zotto May Miss Beginning of Camp

With Larry Brooks at the New York Post reporting that the Rangers are scheduled to take physicals Sunday morning, then be on the ice by early afternoon if the necessary CBA paperwork is completed, Steve Zipay at Newsday feels there's a chance Michael Del Zotto might not be signed in time for the start of training camp. Here's Del Zotto... "We started talking...

Musings: the unlocked edition

Does Kreider deserve to make the opening night roster? I’m writing a musings article. That can only mean one thing: the lockout is over. Who else thought the Gary Bettman ‘apology’ fell on deaf ears? Show of hands? Thought so. On to the musings. TSN had an article earlier this week titled: “Leafs stand to benefit from new CBA”. Of course, this is presumptive from TSN. When...

Nash-Richards-Gaborik Finally Together

It only took five months, but Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Rick Nash, Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik finally practiced on a line together during informals today. Here's Nash on playing with his new teammates... “It’s fun to play with them, it seems like they always find you. We’ve got to make sure we get some chemistry quick. We’ve got to figure...

Whale notes: Hrivik out with concussion, Whale sign Shayne Wiebe

Marek Hrivik, who many speculated would get a long look at camp (well, under normal camp) is out with a concussion. This could be one of the reasons why Hrivik may not be invited to the Rangers mini-camp this year. However with camps set to occur during the AHL season, and lasting only a week, it is unlikely that the Rangers would call up the majority of Connecticut’s roster. Chris...

Henrik Lundqvist plays “Sweet Child O’ Mine” on Jimmy Fallon

If you watched the HBO 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic mini series last year, then you know that New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist is a fantastic guitar player.  It appears that the writers over on Jimmy Fallon had the brilliant idea to have him come out and play a bit of the Guns N’ Roses classic “Sweet Child O’ Mine” to commemorate the end of the NHL Lockout. ...

Hershey Bears 4, Connecticut Whale 3 (SO)

Hershey, PA, January 12, 2013 – The Connecticut Whale gained a standings point for the fourth straight game (2-0-1-1) Saturday night at Giant Center, but lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Hershey Bears. The Whale outshot Hershey 36-23 in the game, including 26-11 in the first two periods, but trailed 2-1 heading into the third before coming back to get the point. Kelsey Tessier...
